Triple Nickel’s Future?

15-Oct-09 – 15:46 by ToddG

The Triple Nickel drill has gained a lot of respect among shooters as a challenging standard of high-speed shooting and gun manipulation. But now the agency that developed the drill has selected a new service weapon… one not as well suited to the fast splits one would expect from a shooter capable of meeting the Triple Nickel’s five second time limit.

It will be very interesting to see how many of the current coin holders can manage that feat with the new gun.

Train hard & stay safe! ToddG

  2. Todd – The last I heard, TSA was using some flavor of SIGs. What could they have changed to that is less suited to fast splits…Webleys? 8-)

  3. Chuck — How many guns in 357 SIG do you know that have a longer reset than a stock SIG?

  4. It appears that it’ll be a really exceptional shooter that can still do that drill within a five second time limit.

  5. This is an awesome drill, and fun.

I was running it today with a guy at work. Best I did clean with an M&P compact was 5.88(did it 3 times, best was the 2nd run). Once I get more time with the little gun, I’m pretty sure I can get under 5 seconds consistently.

I’ve got one of the guns alluded to above, along with a few others for some testing. I’ll be using this drill, along with a bunch more on this site for my T&E.

It’ll be interesting to see what the different guns do.

  8. Yes, the boys will be working hard at mastering another tool (albiet a poor one…) to continue to get the job done! Bottom line; those on the front line MUST Perform On Demand regardless of a handgun, hands-on, or verbal discussion!
I’m proud to have been part of America’s frontline, I know they will perservere through this as they have all the other “decisions” of the “short sighted management”.

    Fast is Fine….
    But Accuracy if Final!

  11. It’s possible with the new gun, but difficult. Keep the faith…we don’t have the new gun yet.

  12. As a former Police Officer, and military small arms instructor, I would be very interested in this ‘Triple nickel’ drill you guys speak of. Someone please email a description of this shooting exercise, So, I may incorporate it into my own practice sessions. I too, shoot a S&W .40 Compact. Still building proficiency with this little baby. I’m an old ‘wheel gun’ convert. Used to be a pretty decent PPC competitor, in my younger days. The auto loader is a relatively new challenge, and anything that builds speed, without sacrificing accuracy, is welcome in the self help inventory. Thanks in advance for any assistance, Bob
