Skill Isn’t Everything
8-Jul-10 – 12:42 by ToddGThis may be considered Not Safe For Work for some, but there’s no blood or gore.
Chinese policewoman shoots and kills hostage-taker. (from Liveleak.com)
She flinches. She turns her head away as she fires the shot. I’m willing to bet her trigger control wasn’t going to earn her Distinguished Expert, either. But she manages to shoot the bad guy (or at least shoot at the bad guy without hitting the hostage). It’s unclear whether the first shot actually hit, or it just startled the hostage taker enough to give the hostage time to escape before the officer fires a few more shots and kills the bad guy.
Still, call me crazy but I’d much rather get rescued by someone who knew how to use gunsights.
Train hard & stay safe! ToddG

Now how do you know that she didn’t watch the movie “Speed” and was aiming for the hostage? Just kidding of course, the hostage should count her blessings.

I think she definitely fired one up into the ceiling.
Obviously the PRC cops don’t have a police sniper capability, the bad guy made life pretty easy for anybody who was a shooter.

“I’m with the Chinese government, and I’m here to help yooooou!”
[BANG-BANG-BANG]
“Wow, that was LOUD! Are you alright?”

I think my favorite part is after she scares the guy with a round in the ceiling and he falls backwards trying to retreat, she walks up to him and just caps him while he’s lying there. That’s cold.

I’d like to know what went through her mind in the moments leading up to her taking action. Was she just some bafoon who got lucky, or was she a warrior with thought who took what skills she had to save a life?

She’s been a police office for 27 years and it’s her first time to shoot at a real person. She went back to her night shift duty right after the shooting.
One interesting thing is that lots of Chinese think it’s excessive to fire 4 shots.
Her colleague told media that she’s a sharpshooter (at paper target and no time limit?). btw, Chinese cops still use FMJ and very weak rounds (25% weaker than .380 ACP). If that represents good shooting skills for Chinese cops, every mainland Chinese should be very worried.

“she walks up to him and just caps him while he’s lying there.” I’m with Caleb. Depends on the editing but it looks like hostage got away and the hostage taker was at that point an idiot on the ground with a knife–effectively surrendering? Whats SOP? (Apparently in China its 2B 1H.)
