2,000 rounds in two days. My Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm (serial MPHxxx) fired 2,000 rounds over the course of two days without being cleaned or lubricated during the entire test. No stoppages, malfunctions, or parts breakages of any kind.

There is certainly nothing wrong with spending time at the range just having fun. I'd choose shooting as a recreational activity over golf any day. But, there is a difference between going to the range and actual training.
