2010: Greg and the G26

M4Carbine.net moderator Greg Bell is detailing his commitment to shoot a Glock 26 exclusively for one year in this thread. Greg expects to put over 10,000 rounds through the gun as well as attend at least a couple of handgun training classes during the year.

With Greg’s permission, pistol-training.com will be hosting monthly updates to his progress.

Greg’s G26 shooting actually began a little early. So far, he’s fired 506 rounds and experienced 1 stoppage. The stoppage was a failure to feed with Winchester White Box 115gr FMJ ammunition just three rounds into the test. The brand new pistol had been lubricated but not cleaned. It has subsequently fired Monarch steel-cased and Blazer aluminum-cased ammunition without any problems.

Thanks again to Greg and M4Carbine for allowing us to follow along!

  1. Wow!! one stoppage after 506 rounds? That does not sound like any glock that I have own. I can honestly say that I own 3 glocks and never experienced a single malfunction.
Todd have you conducted a torture test in the past on a glock?

  2. I own the G 26, inherence from Big Papa, and my everyday companion S&W M&P 9mm compact, between the 2 any opinon? any you like most?, Wish you a good 2010.
    Thanks for the info.

  3. Some lots of WWB white box are loaded with very poor primers that often require a second strike to fire

  4. Hey guys,

Who knows? It was the third shot. I had only dropped some break free on the rails. I didn’t clean out the gun (because I have always been told to let the copper colored paste “wear in.” Frankly, IME it isn’t that unusual for a brand new gun to hiccup. It didn’t bother me at all.

  5. Todd,
Do a Glock next and raise your goal to 150K rounds. I am sure you will make some people Glock fans real fast. They might be ugly but they are reliable.

  6. I’ve owned and carried the Glock 26 for at least a dozen years. The Glock sub-compacts are one of the best CCW pistols made.

I can see the WW FMJ jamming. It’s not overly powerful (read weak) ammo and you can limp-wrist it, or in a brand new gun, just not quite enought oomph to get the slide back in the first few rounds.

I have no doubt his test of the 26 will have the little gun pass with flying colors.

Have him do some 100 yard shooting. It can hit a IPSC/IDPA target, every shot, from prone without much trouble.

  7. Paul,

I will do that for you. I agree. It won’t be pretty, but I can definitely wing em’ and 100 yards. I usually shoot at a 1 foot steel plate at that range and after a few shots I can usually hit it 50/50.

  8. Tell Greg I’ve used my Glock 26 while attending several training classes, many IDPA matches, and packed it daily for years here in Texas.

No biggie and it will go the 10,000 rounds and well beyond. Well well beyond!

  9. Hi Todd,

I thought I would chime in, I have a G27, bought around 1995 or so, close to when they first came out. I would estimate approx 10k rounds thru it at this point. Zero malfunctions of any kind, zero! That being said, I just bought a police turn in G22 full size..it seems to have a lite primer strike every 100 rounds or so…go figure.

    Richied from the m&p forums

  10. Hey guys,

3042 rounds so far. Mostly steel cased ammo and some blazer aluminum. The gun hasn’t hiccuped since my original post. Fantastic little gun. Should be able to keep up 200 rounds per week from here on out. I am running a Comp-tac IWB but am thinking about buying a blade tech nano.

The Warrens are, IMHO, the best damn sight out there.

As always, the gun funtioned well. As always, the Warren sights are very fast.
