Ever wanted to be sponsored by a leading company in the firearms industry?
Well, Smith & Wesson is giving you a chance to do exactly that. Julie Golob, captain of Team Smith & Wesson (pictured left) has been spearheading this unique opportunity for the past few years at Smith. It gives competitive shooters all over the country a chance to get evaluated as potential new team members.
Now, you’re probably thinking that only the already ultra-famous, ultra-successful big names in the industry will be considered. But that’s not so. That is the real beauty of Julie’s program and it shows that Smith & Wesson is very serious about its involvement in the shooting sports at all levels, not just among the super-elite at the top. Last year there were twenty members of Team Smith & Wesson and they managed to rack up a combined ninety-one major match titles. That’s USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, Bianchi, ICORE… you name the match, and there was probably at least one shooter wearing S&W blue in the winner’s circle at the end of the day.
The selection process uses a simple online survey that assigns points for various factors like which sports you play, major match rankings, and personal/community involvement. The scores are tallied and offers are made to those who earn the most points.
No question, competition for a slot on Team Smith & Wesson will be fierce. But I will let you in on a little secret. Last year I was in Montana visiting Julie while she was going over some of the surveys, and many of them were rejected simply because the applicant didn’t provide complete information. Fill in all the blanks and you’re already way ahead of the curve. So your kindergarten teacher wasn’t kidding about learning to follow instructions.
Good luck to all the pistol-training.com readers who give it a shot! If you get selected, let us know and we’ll help kick off your shooting season with some free publicity. Unless you’re funny looking, in which case we’ll just keep posting more photos of Julie…
Train hard & stay safe! ToddG
There are moments, though few and far between, that I wish I had just a little more time to try shooting competition.
Nice stuff, very forward thinking of S&W to do this. Good on them, and good luck to all that apply.
Too bad you’d have to shoot a S&W.
Is this how this site got sponsored by HK?
you should hear what he had to do to land the coveted chipotle sponsorship…
Kent — We’re not sponsored by HK. They’re simply providing us with the equipment and supplies necessary to perform a test of their product. The distinction might seem like a silly one — getting four guns and 150,000 rounds of ammo over two years sounds pretty nice, doesn’t it? — but pistol-training.com remains completely independent in terms of our review of any product, including HK products. That’s why you’ve seen photos of broken parts and read criticisms of some features.
Now if Chipotle really did want to sponsor the site, for that I would sell out my journalistic integrity in a heartbeat. 8) Mmmm… double hot sauce please!
Good Day,
I was trying to follow the link for the S&W Team, and it appears to be dead. Any idea on what happened. I would much like to try my hand at it.
Like I would get to shoot with Julie..
