Belts

“My belt holds my pants up, but the belt loops hold my belt up. So which one’s the real hero?”
— Mitch Hedberg

We all know that a good gun belt is important, whether you’re talking competition, duty, or CCW. Now Ron at When the Balloon Goes Up tells you why, and what to look for in a proper belt.

Personally, I’ve been using a Wilderness 5-stitch Frequent Flyer for years. They’re stiff and maintain that stiffness for a long time and they’re infinitely adjustable which is nice when you carry AIWB where a tiny change in belt setup can have huge effects on comfort and concealability.

  1. I concur. I’m wearing a Wilderness 5-stitch as I type this. I used to rock the CSM model, but found that the extra bulk wasn’t neccessary for EDC.

  2. The #1 gear problem I see with students is a poor choice of a belt. One guy even came to class with one of those cotton belts with the 2 D rings.

  3. Mitch is incorrect, your belt loops connect your belt and pants, thus allowing your belt to hold your pants up. The belt holds itself up AND the pants, thus it is the real hero.

  4. Another vote for the Wilderness belts. I’ve been using them for nigh on 20 years, and they’ve been awesome.

  5. Bought my first Wilderness belt in 1998 a regular 5 stitch no insert. Its still in excellent shape except from years of everyday use I tore the hook part of the end of the belt. I`m sold on wildeness belts and there horizontal double stack magazine holder that I wear at 11PM
