As mentioned in this past week’s Glock test update, last Sunday some of the students at Aim Fast Hit Fast in Salt Lake mentioned JJ Racaza‘s variation of the Triple Nickel wherein he shoots three per target instead of two. So it’s draw, three on each of five targets plus a reload all in under five seconds. I tried it… didn’t make the time.
Yesterday, some of the pistol-forum.com staff and friends spent the day on the range and this was one of the drills we tried. If you ever needed proof that yes, you can hear the buzzer while you’re shooting… here it is. As soon as I fired the last shot, I knew I was just over the limit.
Five point zero six seconds. Point. Zero. Six.

The Fish — The only editing done to that clip was to cut out a couple of seconds before the buzzer went off.

Is JJ doing this drill from concealment or is he using a race rig?
Eric — From concealment. And while I cannot be certain, my guess is that he’s doing it with a SIG P229 in 357 SIG!
Todd, Do you recall what your splits were throughout that run?
I shoot with a low number coin holder. According to him they don’t reload from slide lock.
This should pick you up that fraction of a second you need.

rsa-otc — Done properly (which assumes you can reach the controls, etc) a slidelock reload takes no more time than an in-battery reload.
