Surf finds the only possible way to make a clean 4.74-second run on the F.A.S.T. somehow look… slow?
A 4.74 is outstanding and something very, very few people could pull off. Kudos to Surf not just for the accomplishment but for setting his sights on excellence rather than complacency.
Train hard & stay safe! ToddG
That’s awesome to watch. Both of you guys are amazing.
Neither of those people in the video is me. On the left is Surf, and on the right is Dave Sevigny.
Surf whoever you are! That is a superb approach with the video. Thanks so much.
Ohhhh THAT Surf. I’ve seen your other vids linked from M4C. They are outstanding. Thanks again.
It looks like the bulk of the time difference is in the first and second shots. Dave takes the head shots like people do a body shot.
Good shooting on both parts.
Amazing. I wonder how much I’d have to practice to be that fast–shooting blanks and just pretending to hit something. Great video; it helps a mortal appreciate what 3.56 seconds means.
Nice comparision vid.
Awesome video. Encouraging, yet depressing at the same time. I’d just like to be under 5.00s someday. No one can touch the Android.
I saw this vid on the forum. Most would say hey look at me this is “Good” and call it a day. Surf was asking for help in IMPROVING his time. Kudos to Surf.
Would love to see that again in slow-motion.
And most of the time does seem to be on the press out and first shot. The Android is incredible for finding the target that quickly.
Dave picks up a lot of time on the reload as well – looks like he has the new mag in before the old hits the ground.
Good run Surf!
I feel Surf’s pain.
Here’s a 4.82sec run with a G17 from September.
Even though I’ve dropped 50+lbs since and am in WAY better shape, plus, have transitioned to shooting a gun that’s a lot easier for mortals to hit with IMHO (CZ Shadow); I’m still stuck at around 4.5secs and have only cracked the 4second barrier one single stinking time.

He’s a robot dude, we’re just humans, might have to get over it…
Thanks for the comments everyone! I originally made this video and it was not listed publicly as it was meant to self evaluate in an attempt to learn and improve my technique. I do teach professionally and mostly deal with advanced shooters and combat shooting, but I never want to stop being a student and trying to better myself.
Todd came across this video and asked to post it. Of course I said yes as it was the least I could do for using his drill for myself and with my students. If others can learn from watching me getting smoked by the Android then that is awesome! I am not ashamed to get beaten so badly by such a great shooter as Dave Sevigny!
Thanks to Todd and his efforts with what he does for and with the shooting world. The FAST test is a fine drill that is quick and easy to set up and shoot. It is a quick and easy benchmark that shows you where your at. With practice my best is a 4.34sec but IMO it is best not to shoot it too often but rather pull it out every now and again and shoot it cold. This IMO gives a more realistic benchmark time. I do think that anything right around 5 flat is a very very good time.
I definitely see where I have room to improve and shave times and Todd and I have discussed this. The cool thing with this video is that it shows exactly what my issues are and where time can be made up. I look forward to perhaps comparing my video with another one of mine in a couple of months or so!
Thanks again everyone!

Wait, Dave who? Sevingy?
