F.A.S.T. Challenge Coins

pistol-training.com is excited to announce that our F.A.S.T. challenge coins have arrived!

To earn a coin, a shooter must score less than 5.00 seconds on the F.A.S.T. drill twice in a row during an organized pistol-training.com event. The coins are individually numbered. So far, only #00 and #01 have been awarded. A record of all the coin recipients, as well as current F.A.S.T. records, is maintained on the FASTest page.

Our sincere thanks go out to the great folks at Northwest Territorial Mint for all of their help in designing and producing these beautiful coins!

  1. The time on the FASTest page is my best “formal event” time in front of a group and an organized pistol-training.com class or event. My personal bests are 4.24 from concealment (which was the third run of the day), and 3.89 from an ALS duty holster (which works out to 4.39 given how we calculate the scores).

edited to add: Those are bests, not typical performance. I’ve literally shot the drill hundreds of times and I may never hit that 3.89 again. 8)

  2. wow those are awesome! they did a beautiful job! now if i could just shoot good enough :O(

  3. 3.89 is pretty sporty – That works out to about a 1.15 first shot, .30 split on the 2nd HS…1.6ish slide lock reload and .20 splits on the follow up 4 shots…. Not bad

  4. I didn’t write down the stats for the 3.89 run, but I can’t stress enough that it was just luck. I was going at warp speed and hoping for hits. 8)

Just got an email from Dave Sevigny, who’s run the drill a few times helping me gather data. He ran it yesterday with his carry gear (stock G23, stock 5.5# trigger, 165gr Gold Dot, KyTac IWB holster) from concealment. His best run was 4.08 and he had plenty of runs in the 4.40 or better.

Earlier this year, the first time he tried the drill he used a G34, 4# trigger, and an open top hip holster (from concealment) and had plenty of clean runs under 4.0 seconds. The best one I have data from was 3.63! That was a 1.4 draw, .27 head split, 1.43 reload, then .17, .18, .18 splits on the body.

  5. Keith W. — I’m unaware of Jarrett ever shooting the F.A.S.T.

I developed it about five years ago, and I may have mentioned it to Todd at the ’08 SHOT Show (we were trying to get a number of top competitive shooters to try the drill and report their findings). If he shot it and posted a video somewhere, that would be news to me.

  6. Outstanding Todd. As an aside don’t go ordering any more coins on my behalf. My reloads are timed by a calendar and my draws by sundial.

    Take Care

    Bob
