As a reminder, Heckler & Koch remains the only handgun manufacturer that designs all of its barrels to withstand firing a a live round behind a squib. They even use a proprietary steel for their barrels… the company that produces the steel has a contract with HK guaranteeing they won’t sell it to anyone else.

  1. I haven’t seen you post this kind of manufacturer post since.. well, ever.

This entire post is a giant [citation needed]. I’ve never heard of HK constructing their guns for squid tolerance, nor this proprietary steel.

  2. I have slept since then, but didn’t the last round of FBI pistol tests include shooting a faux set-up squib out of the bore? (“A projectile wil be placed in the bore yadda distance from the muzzle and a live round will be chambered and et cetera…”)

  3. IIRC, Glock pistols passed the obstructed bore test in some country’s pistol trials. German police or something?

  4. Todd,
You’re obviously not much of an operator. Kel-Tec designed their gun to do this so it could be destroyed prior to an imminent overrun by the enemy. Duh! I bet you don’t even run Z-Flex sights either do you?

  5. wartzilla — The HK design requirement for being safe with a squib is very well known and shouldn’t take much time to find with Google. As for the steel, that comes directly from HK USA’s president, Wayne Weber.

  6. There are many citations referencing HK’s proprietary barrel steel, as well as their squib/obstructed barrel requirment. The steel is somewhat of secret held by HK.

Yes, Glocks have passed the test as well, however I don’t think it is a factory mandate for them, but I could be wrong about that.
