Give Me the Bad News First

S&W will be announcing some very interesting new products at SHOT Show over the next few days.

Sadly, they are also announcing this:

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the Smith & Wesson Governor. And it is not, I’m afraid, a practical joke. Clearly intended to capture part of the lucrative (if disrespected) Taurus Judge market, the Governor… it will… you can… seriously, I’ve just got nothing to say.

When emulating Taurus is your product strategy, selling off stock options should be your financial strategy.

  1. Here’s a thought for you gamers out there.

Being a 6 shot revolver, it appears the Governor is legal for IDPA.

And there is nothing in the rules about single projectile ammunition. It seems that Federal’s 000 buck load in .410 would easily make power factor.

Makes for an interesting thought experiment – and perhaps the only actual use for this eyesore….

  2. Matt:

Do they make speedloaders for the thing? Just the mental image that conjures up is a little ridiculous.

  3. You know, this gun is a fine self defense tool. You put that thing in a tube sock, swing like you’re going for the fences, and it’s lights out. Cheap to practice with too.

As to its effectiveness as a firearm…

  4. I think it would be fun to see if it would hold up to a 50,000 round test. Granted, you would have to get REALLY good at reloading….

  5. For me, I’d just as soon carry a Bond Derringer loaded with buckshot as a poisonous snake charmer while I’m maintaining my property.

Although I do admire and adhere to the business philosophy of supplying a demand for a profit, S&W won’t be seeing any of my coins in their till with this new revolver.

But I’m pretty sure they’ll see plenty of coins coming in from others…

  6. If H&K makes “the Furher”, we know how to make France surrender….again.

  7. I’m waiting for the Vlad Tepesh counter terrorist pistol with impaling bayonet.

Smith could have made a J with better sights, no lock, tritium, Crimson Trace etc…

    But NO….
