As mentioned in the comments of last week’s update, I decided to give in and install a Lone Wolf 3.5# connector in the test gun this week. Photo at left is courtesy of Dillon Precision.
I’d hit a serious plateau and was struggling — or at least getting annoyed and blaming! — the trigger on the endurance test gun. While the dot connector definitely worked far better than any previous OEM connector I’d put in the gun, it still wasn’t giving me the kind of roll through that I like. So per the suggestion of Deputy Bravo (possibly an alias) I ordered the Lone Wolf.
Obviously, I’m still in the honeymoon phase but here are some thoughts:
- In conjunction with the NY1 trigger spring, which was the combo I wanted to use, the pull weight was exceptionally heavy. The reset point seemed to be much farther forward, which I know isn’t controlled by the trigger spring but… it was. I found it very difficult to move my finger fast enough to get fast splits.
- By itself, the LW3.5 makes the trigger feel extremely light. However, I measured it and an average of five pulls measured five pounds, four ounces on my gun when measured from the center of the trigger safety (one pound less when measured from the tip of the trigger). The trigger still has some definite steps in it, but it rolls more than the dot connector. That contributes to the lighter feel.
I shot the pistol-forum.com Drill of the Week (Bill Drills) after just a couple magazines of familiarity fire and got all hits with an average of 2.15 seconds (from concealment, a Custom Carry Concepts Shaggy aiwb holster under a half-zip fleece). The photo at right is my target after the drill. I also shot the 99 Drill and set a personal best of 97! The first point I dropped was my first draw during the reload stage, I just completely lost visual control of the gun and shanked the shot downward a solid two or three inches below the target. The other point was lost at the 15 yard stage where I simply rushed during my first 3-shot string of fire.
The real test of the LW3.5 will come Monday, when I’ll try Dot Torture at 8yd again (scored a 45 last time) as well as the upcoming Drill of the Week which will also be accuracy oriented. Of course, I’ll also try a few F.A.S.T. runs to see how everything comes together.
In other happy news, the second prototype Gadget passed the 10,000 round mark this week. While I’m obviously biased, honestly it’s faded completely into the mental background for me. It’s there, it makes sure I don’t die from a case of acute stupid, and I don’t have to think about it.

Are the warren/sevigny sights still on the gun? Have you acclimated to them at a pace that you deem acceptable? Asking because I have enjoyed mine so far in the 3 range trips I’ve taken with them, but my experience with these things is massively eclipsed by yours. The only other two dot sights I have used were the heinie sights, and I prefer these due to the high visibility front sight. Thanks.

I actually work with one of your acquaintances at a large central florida (orlando area) sheriff’s office…and he is the one who originally turned me onto your blog (which I’ve found to be an invaluable source of information). Agreed. Minus connector in Gen 4 is a very serviceable pull. I have found it to be true that different specimens of the same connector seem to feel slightly different and have seen some exp users say they’ll try out a half dozen minus connectors to pick the one that provides them the trigger they like best. I am not THAT calibrated or OCD about the subject.
JConn — Yes, the Warren/Sevigny are still on the gun but I’m not sure they’re really helping. I’ve got a set of Ameriglo sights sitting on my bench and another set of (top secret, soon to be released) sights on their way to try out, as well.

…what sights would you tell me to put on the gun? Do you see yourself going back to the Trijicon HD unless the Ameriglo or top secret sights are the “best ever?”
Also in pursuit of all things TLG :-), what about your holster? It seems you are utilizing the Shaggy the vast majority of the time. Do you prefer it over the In-Victus for the G17?
Does this particular combination seem to work best with your gen 4 pistol particularly? Or do you think the LWB 3.5# would also be copacetic with gen 3s on their own?
I ask because I just placed an order for 2 LWD carry pistol sets (NY1 trigger spring + LWB 3.5#) as I am thinking of moving over to this setup in order to get a more smooth rolling break as opposed to the stock trigger, which I suspect is encouraging my (shooter induced, not gun induced) trigger slap.

John — If I had to pick a set of sights today and never change, I’d go with the Trij HD. They really worked great for almost everything. As for the holster, I don’t have an In-Victus for the G17 yet so I couldn’t compare. I’ve got a handful of other leather aiwb holsters that I’m playing with, though.
Neph — I wouldn’t venture an opinion on the LW3.5 in a gen3 gun because I’ve never used one.

I just installed a LWD 3.5 connector in my Gen4 G17 yesterday and have been dry firing with it all morning. It feels exactly as you described in your entry pertaining to it rolling more than with the factory dot connector. Mine averaged 4lb 12oz for 5 pulls on my digital Lyman scale.

it is only ahalf# lighter?
