Glock 17 gen4 Endurance Test: When Will It Stop?

When will the Glock 17 have its first stoppage?

Rules:

  1. One entry per person. You cannot guess again once your number has been surpassed, or before your number is reached, or under any other circumstance. If you pick a number that has already been picked by someone else, you lose; you cannot guess again.
  2. Entries are submitted via comment to this post.
  3. Posting anything other than your guess disqualifies you permanently.
  4. The email address you use when posting the comment must be valid. If we cannot reach the winner, the next closest guess wins.
  5. We’ll use Price is Right rules. Whoever guesses closest without going over is the winner.
  6. For purposes of this contest, “stoppage” will apply to the first instance in which the G17 test gun fails to go completely through its normal cycle of operation, except for stoppages which are determined by pistol-training.com to be ammunition-induced. Essentially, anything that earns stoppage, malfunction, or breakage in the tally being kept each week.
  7. Guesses must be numerical, you cannot pick a date or “never.”
  8. No purchase necessary. Contest and offer void where prohibited by law.

Prizes:

  • Pick the exact round count at which the stoppage occurs and you win a certificate good for one free pistol-training.com class. (this certificate is fully transferable so if you do not want it or cannot use it, you can at least sell it on the black market)
  • If no one picks the exact round count, whoever comes closest without going over will win a pistol-training.com hat and a $50 gift certificate good towards any pistol-training.com class.

  1. Doh, of course.

This is why I’m an architect instead of an engineer.

  2. Miscounted last number. Should have been 188. Now a third (different type of stoppage) at 230. I’m trucking on for another 30 minutes then I’ll decide what to do.

  3. 4th stoppage at 392. Test suspended until I can assess. There is no way I would carry this gun as is.

  4. Sadly this is what I expected. I figured it would choke up a few times within first few hundred … once you got past some slow fire and got up to speed. I figured it would settle down after a couple hundred and fun for thousands and thousands after that. I am anxious to see what you find after assessing. Also, please let us know which spring is in the gun.

  5. “it’s a G17. If yours doesn’t work, consider it concrete evidence that God hates you.”

  6. Pretty interested on the write-up for the stoppages so far….what kinds of malfunctions were you seeing?

  7. My bad, just saw Todd’s comment, looks like his Gen4 G17 has started off about as well as mine did…

  8. Todd I guessed 226 it had a different malfunction at 230. That should be good for somthing right? Can I get first place for a new malfunction?
