Glock Gen4 Recoil Spring Assembly “Exchange Program”

If you’ve been following the tale of gen4 Glocks, you know that in just over a year the company has tried a variety of different recoil spring assembly (RSA) variants trying to alleviate various problems users have experienced. Adding to the trouble has been the need for different RSAs for guns with and without a properly counterbored spring box (aka, “nose ring”).

Finally, they’ve got it all figured out and Glock is announcing a free “exchange program” for any gen4 Glock owner.  There is now just one RSA per model, regardless of whether the slide was counterbored for the RSA or not. As someone who owns two non-counterbored Glocks, I can tell you that is good news because finding the non-counterbored-only spring (0-2-1) is almost impossible.

All you need to do is contact Glock at 1-877-745-8523 with your serial number and model number. They will send you a replacement spring and a pre-addressed envelope to return the old one. For details, you can visit TeamGlock.com.

  1. Thanks for posting this. I will certainly take Glock up on their offer.

I’m shooting a GSSF match this weekend, so hopefully the Glock armorer at the match has the suitable replacement springs on hand.

  2. I’m not returning the old one! It’s a first edition un-marked that has provided 8K rds of malfunction free shooting. Funny, that’s whe the Glock factory tech/mgr I ran into at the Gettin’ Place said. But cool design of the new bi-one. He showed me a copy. Good news.

  3. Be interesting to see if this actually fixes it. Are you putting it into the test Glock with the old extractor to see if it works?

  4. What about Gen 3s that reportedly had some of the same issues where Gen 4 parts were used at the factory?

  5. Mike — No. My gun runs now and I’m not going to make purposeful changes to see if I can get it to stop running.

Stephen — They weren’t “gen4” parts per se. Certain changes were made right before, during, and after the introduction of the gen4 guns and some of those changes were also incorporated into the gen3 guns. One of them was the extractor. Glock has reportedly addressed this with a newer generation extractor.

  6. Always wondered why they didn’t just use a version of the RSA used in the G26/27/33/30. Worked fine, still works.

  7. So if the RSA works regardless of the counterbore, then does that imply that the counterbore is now not necessary and future Glocks will not have it? If the new RSA’s front lip is wide enough that it goes beyond the counterbore, then arguably, the Glocks with counterbores would be less supported for the RSA. Can anyone describe what changes they made so that it works in both types of slides?
