Goals 2012

  • Shoot the F.A.S.T. clean every time when demonstrating in class. There is a direct correlation to my accuracy during the test and students’ accuracy. When I shoot it clean, the students are more likely to. Instead of trying to set my personal record in front of students each time, I’m going to do what’s necessary to get all my hits… the same advice I give the students, not coincidentally.
  • Get a perfect score on the 99 Drill. While I’ve shot the individual strings of fire clean at times, I’ve never been able to put all 99 rounds into the 3×5 in one run. Incrementally, this is going to require a lot of work on consistency in my draw and low% speed.
  • Dry fire at least four times per week. I’m teaching more next year (17 classes already confirmed) and that means my live fire time will be reduced. Since I’ve always got my SIRT pistol with me when I’m teaching, meeting this goal is just a matter of discipline.
  • Beat my personal best at Rogers. I’ve been to Rogers Shooting School three times. My best score on their 125-round test was a 121. We’re trying to organize a private pistol-forum.com class at Rogers in 2012, so hopefully I’ll get the chance.
  • Attend Southnarc’s ECQC. I was originally scheduled to take ECQC last month, but the class had to be canceled. So now I’m planning to take it in Nov’12 while Craig (Southnarc) is in New Mexico. Preparatory goal is to get in good enough shape not to die of exhaustion during the first 60 seconds of class.

  1. You’re going to need the cardio… because I plan on mugging you in ECQC.
    😉

  2. Some great goals.

I’ve done ECQC twice now in and was able to do Southnarc’s new vehicles class (VCAST) this year. Time and money well spent.

Interesting that you have noticed a direct correlation in your accuracy in demonstration and your student’s accuracy. Is this just a casual observation or do you have data? I would be very interested in seeing the numbers on something like that.

  3. Nick — I ran the numbers for a few classes where I kept track of my own hits instead of just my total score. The percentage of students who get both of their 3×5 hits goes way down if I miss either of mine.

rdavid — I use a modified version of the program I wrote about in August. Once I’ve been doing it for a few months I’ll probably post more details on the rewrite.

  4. do what’s necessary to get all my hits… the same advice I give the students, not coincidentally.

Gosh, it’s like I can hear your voice when I read this. 😮
