Gun Nuts’ Kel-Tec Challenge

As any reader of pistol-training.com knows by now, we’re pretty big fans of unbiased transparent high round count pistol tests. It’s fun to drive over your pistol with a pickup or drop it off a building, but how many of us ever need to rely on a gun after running over it with a pickup or dropping it off a building? Instead, a meaningful test sees what the gun is capable of during actual operation.

The folks at Gun Nuts are running a 5,000 round test on a Kel-Tec PF9. Most importantly and to their credit, they’ve outlined the test procedure in advance and they’re inviting the world to watch them step by step. If the gun exceeds their expectations, it will be out there for everyone to see.

The informal, unofficial “When Will It Stop” contest begins now…

  1. 4999…

I hope this thing runs well. Been considering one as a BUG.

  2. I will be very interested myself to see how it performs. I’m also looking for a local sucker…uh I mean volunteer to actually do most of the shooting.

  3. If you lived anywhere even remotely close to Southern Maryland I would happily shoot the PF9 for you.

    I give it 800.

  4. 957, and it will be officially dead.
Malfunctions will start up around 632.

I also reserve the right to say I grossly exaggerated this numbers.

  5. I have run 200 rounds of Winchester 127 +p+ through one. I still would not own one and no it was no fun!

  6. I’m going to say it’ll go one round before whatever sucker Caleb got to test it says “OWWWWDAMMIT!!! You’ve got to be freaking kidding me!” and gives it back.

  7. “I’m going to say it’ll go one round before whatever sucker Caleb got to test it says “OWWWWDAMMIT!!! You’ve got to be freaking kidding me!” and gives it back.”

This, of course, is the correct answer. 🙂

  8. I own 2 Kel-tecs. one is a Sub 2K and the other is a P-3at and never had a malfunction with about 5K rounds between the two of them. For the price and quality of gun you get a hell of a deal.

  9. Hey Caleb, I’ll shoot it for you. You’ve got email.

    I think it’ll make it 800.

  10. @Caleb,

I’m down the street at MS and will be more than happy to be your sucker. I had to sell my guns to move here from Florida last September and have been itching to get back to the range again. Feel free to contact edwing@gmail.com or 305.809.6373.

  11. If only I were headed to Washington this summer. I’d be happy to help with the shooting duties on this.

  12. I have a P-11 that went around 2000 rounds before it started nose diving when shooting one handed. Still works OK with a firm grip after a trip back to Kel-Tec.

    I’ll say 2000.

  13. If Emanuel is the same Manny I shoot USPSA with, then he’s good people. I appear to have quite a few volunteers lined up, and yes I’ll be providing the ammo.

  14. To give the piece of crap I once owned a chance,,,,15 rounds. That is more than mine ever made it. CS was a joke!
