HK45 Endurance Test: Week Thirteen

17,014 rounds

0 stoppages 0 malfunctions 0 parts breakages

OK. Zero rounds fired this past week. Not exactly exciting, right?

The HK45 traveled with me to Montana for vacation over the 4th of July. The picture seen above may or may not have been taken inside Glacier National Park depending on the legality of taking such a picture in such a park.

In addition to steel, cardboard, and paper, things on the list of “stuff I did not shoot at” includes this fellow pictured right. He decided to hang out beside our cabin for a while right before it was time to pack up and head for home. It made loading up the car a lot more exciting.

Otherwise, the pistol spent pretty much the entire week inside the Garrity In-Victus holster. Whether lounging around the cabin with friends or hiking through Glacier, it was easy to conceal and perfectly comfortable… even during the long drive from Kalispell to East Glacier and back.

I’ve started experimenting with button-down shirts again. I generally find them slower to draw from than polos, but they definitely have their benefits in terms of concealment and discrete appearance. Tomorrow night I’ll get to spend some time on the range with a true celebrity of the “close quarters fighting” world and will pick his brain a bit about the subject as I’ve noticed he’s quite the fan of such shirts for hiding guns, knives, and similar handy tools.

This Saturday, I will be teaching another Speed Kills class in Culpeper, VA. Friend and occasional pistol-training.com contributor TCinVA (formerly the artist known as John_Wayne777) has volunteered to shoulder the heavy burden of running the HK45 test gun for the entire class… much like he did for the P30 test gun earlier this year. Of course, in addition to getting another unbiased report out of TC, my ulterior motive is to put an extra 700 rounds through the HK45 and get back on track to finish the 50,000 round challenge before the end of the year!

So check back next week to read an actual update with actual information about actually shooting the actual gun. I promise.

Train hard & stay safe! ToddG

  1. And where are those promised monthly reports on P30 endurance test? I believe it was promised to reach 100 000 rounds anyway.

  2. Raja — Actually, the pistol has been with HK since the NRA Show. They put it on display there and then sent it out for some professional photography. I’m hoping to pick it up next week and get it back into the testing rotation soon!

  4. My dog is bigger than that bear! You must have been nervous that close to nature. Did you get any ticks?

  6. I cannot believe that you failed as a pistol tester.

How on earth could you not have slathered the gun with bacon fat and thrown it to your guest?
