As promised, quite a bit of shooting was accomplished this past week: 2,302 rounds over four practice sessions totaling nine hours and forty five minutes.
Two of the practice sessions began by shooting the F.A.S.T. cold:
Day 2
- 5.17 (-1 H, 7.17): 1.50, .73 / 2.04 / .29, .30, .31
- 4.71 (clean): 1.42, .55 / 1.97 / .26, .26, .25
- 4.60 (clean): 1.46, .57 / 1.89 / .22, .24, .22
Day 3
- 5.42 (clean): 1.61, .67 / 2.33 (f) / .28, .27, .26
- 4.59 (-1 H, -2 B, 8.59): 1.53, .43 / 1.86 / .26, .26, .25
- 4.66 (-1 H, 6.66): 1.52, .49 / 1.92 / .24, .26, .23
Things got a little wild on those last two runs, but that was just the beginning. On a lark, I decided to shoot 100 F.A.S.T. drills in a row. As many pistol-training.com readers know, we strictly limit F.A.S.T. runs to three per day. But seeing as I already have my challenge coin, it seemed like an interesting exercise to generate a lot of data. Unfortunately, due to a software issue, only the first 50 runs were recorded. Some pertinent info:
- 29 out of 50 were clean
- missed a total of sixteen head shots on fifteen runs
- missed a total of ten body shots on eight runs
- average time: 4.74, best of 4.40 (clean)
- average draw (when both head shots were hits): 1.52 seconds, best of 1.38, worst of 1.67
- average followup on head (when both head shots were hits): 0.50 seconds, best of 0.39, worst of 0.74
- average reload: 1.94 seconds, best of 1.59, worst of 2.36 (fumbled mag insertion)
- best run: 10 sub-5 clean in a row
Interestingly, I made 84% of the head shots in an average time of 2.02 seconds… which is a similar percentage to my results practicing doubles on 3×5 cards with a 1.8 par time.
The pistol ran fine, of course. It’s gone exactly 7,000 rounds since the last cleaning, though it has been oiled a time or two. Surprisingly, the high round count of the week did not appear to cause any discomfort or other problems, even after firing more than 1,000 rounds in a single session.
This coming week, we’ll be testing some high end .45 ammunition sent by Asym Ammunition, a new company run by world famous gunsmith Stan Chen. The HK45 will get a thorough cleaning first. The pistol will also be traveling to Indianapolis for an Aim Fast, Hit Fast class where the new pistol-training.com target will also be officially unveiled!

Any update on the Warren sights?
Robbie — No discomfort the next day. I don’t have a bigger pic of the target at this time; I’ve used up all of the samples National Target sent me. There are still a few tweaks that need to be made to the design, so the ones we’ll be using in Indy this weekend are going to be the rare “Gen1” version. 8)
Barnaby — Warren Tactical was informed of the issue with P30 sights on the HK45; no response from them yet.
Oooh better keep one mint copy in a mylar baggy, could be collectible one day you know.
Todd, if u dont mind askin todd if the magazine of hk45 will fit Hk45c ..

I look forward to this weekend in Indy. I hope you don’t mind if I shoot the HK45 a little bit? I’d like to put a few rounds down range and of course I am looking forward to some drills with the new targets.

Todd, your target looks very efficient. Looks like it’ll reduce the types of targets one has to pack for a range session.
Still think random numbers on the periphery would be cool. Regardless I’ll take a couple bundles when they are ready, if you sell them.
pretty spendy ammo..it will be interesting to see if it is actually more accurate as claimed.
So whatcha gonna do with the extra 45 ammo you’re going to have left over from Blazer? Just sayin……
