We passed the 30,000 mark this past week and still not a blip on the chart. Forty-seven of the When Will It Stop contestants have already fallen by the wayside.
The pistol received its (belated) 25,000-round scheduled maintenance, which involved replacing:
- recoil guide rod assembly
- trigger return spring
- firing pin block spring
- firing pin spring
- elbow spring (aka, the “hammer rebound spring”)
- sear spring
HK also sent me two tritium front sights, so hopefully by next week’s update I’ll have the Warren Tactical sights on the pistol. Photos to follow…
Given the absolutely abysmal performance I turned in shooting the F.A.S.T. at last week’s Aim Fast, Hit Fast class in New Mexico, much of the 2,000+ rounds of practice this week went into working two specific skills:
- draw (from concealment) and hit a 3×5 card at 7yd in 1.8 seconds; success rate: ~77%
- various reload drills, ranging from 1-R-2 (par of 3.0 seconds) to surprise reloads (par of 3.3 seconds for 3-shot drill)
The rest of my practice was focused on prepping for the upcoming Appendix Carry Workshop. Luckily, no one seemed to notice all the WHO draws I was doing at the range.

Todd, are you waiting for Warren night sights, front and rear(2 dot)?
Do you mean you will be putting on the HK sights if the Warrens sights do not come in?
I am contemplating what night sights I
am going to put on my M&P pro 5″. I might just get another M&P in 4.25″ and put night sights
on that.
I still don’t think were going to see a failure on this pistol during the 50,000.
You know…since you can’t put both sets of sights on one gun, I know a guy who could try out the other set on a P30. 😉 Just sayin’…
Joe — I’ve had two sets of 1-dot Warren rear sights for quite a while now. But they’re shorter than Heinie sights, so I needed a comparable height front. The stock HK tritium sight should work fine, though it’s wider than I’d like.
Josh — I’m putting a set on my test HK45, and a set on my P30. Thanks for the very generous offer, though. You are a true friend. 8)
a quick run through someones milling machine should narrow those sights without disturbing the vial inside them. Or a bastard file if you’re bored.
WHO draw?
Weak Hand Only
Weak hand only with the holster on the strong side? How the heck do you do that?
XKL,
it depends where you carry your gun and your body structure.
If you carry your gun at the 4 or 5 oclock position, you may have to reach around your back with your weak hand. This could be hard if you´re not so much flexible.
If you carry at the 3 oclock position you can reach over your belly draw and turn your gun (maybe you have to disengage a manual safety lever on you holster)
AIWB are easier to do. There is a vid on youtube a guy called Sonny Puzikas shows the draw stroke from AIWB, so you can get an impression.

BTW, sorry for high-jacking this threat.
I’m not a fan of any draw technique that requires me to “flip” or otherwise lose positive control/grip on the gun once it comes out of the holster.
Todd – as far as it goes to AIWB I can imagine how to do this without a flip or turning. How about this, if the holster is placed around the 3 oclock?

An HK fail, Not in this century… I have a 45c and have NEVER had an issue. Such good handguns, I often wonder why people buy anything else.
