It Really Is All About the Fundamentals

Last night, my brother tagged along to the range with me. Except for a 2-day pistol class almost a decade ago, he’s probably been to the range half a dozen times in his life. He doesn’t own a gun. He hasn’t fired a gun in more than two years.

So when we started doing the 3×5 Card Drill and he didn’t miss a single shot all the way out to fifteen yards, it would be fair to say I was stunned and amazed. The funniest part was that he didn’t even realize he’d accomplished something spectacular. “I’m just doing all the things I was taught, not anticipating and stuff,” was his explanation.

So the next time you’re working on marksmanship fundamentals, keep my little brother’s performance in the back of your mind. And if you can’t hit a 3×5 card at 15 yards every time on demand, he may be available for private lessons. 8)

  1. Rob E — He didn’t even try it. His idiot brother of more than 30 years forgot he was left handed and brought the wrong holster.

  2. Maybe it’s genetics? Or something in the water. I bet if Tiger Woods’ had a brother he’d be able to sink huge putts too!
