In response to our post Limp Wristing: The New Gremlin, reader Tim provided a link to a great test he performed, showing how a variety of different guns functioned when limp-wristed:

  1. You’re welcome, thanks for sharing it with your readers.

Here is round 3 of the tests which includes a re-test of the Glock, this time using a G17 (without a compensator). It seems that many people, when shown the Test 2, felt that perhaps my G17C was defective or that the test was somehow rigged. To respond to these comments I used a different Glock and fire the weapon before the test and after the test to show that it does in fact work. The ammo used in all handguns was Winchester White Box commonly purchased at WalMart stores.

I also include some new pistols in this last installment of the tests.

  2. Hey Todd, I just wanted to ask what you thought about the Springfield XD as a serious use handgun. I was watching the “limp wrist test” video and the issue of the XD grip safety came to mind. Ive heard that the grip safety CAN cause some pretty bad stoppages if not gripped correctly. Is this true?

  3. Allen — While the XD certainly has its fans — some of them fanatical! — it’s not my idea of a hard use top tier pistol. I’ve yet to see one make it through a serious law enforcement endurance test. The grip safety issue can make one-handed manipulations tricky or impossible because for some godawful reason, the slide is locked in battery if there isn’t enough pressure on the grip safety. So if you’re wounded and possibly trying to clear a malfunction one-handed, you better keep your grip firmly against the backstrap at all times. I think the XD is a fine range gun for folks who want to shoot for fun. I wouldn’t carry one.
