M&P Monday: The first week

1,000 rounds

As we reported last week, with the help of the folks at Smith & Wesson we are conducting a test of the M&P9 pistol.  Every Monday we’ll update the status of the test.

So far, I’ve fired one thousand rounds through the gun without any stoppages or problems of any kind.  Ammunition has been a mixture of jacketed hollowpoints and FMJ practice ammo.

One of the things we’ll be doing as part of the test is publishing accuracy test results at 10,000-round intervals.  The initial accuracy tests achieved the following results:

  • Federal 124gr +p HST: 1.46″
  • CCI Blazer 115gr FMJ: 3.52″

Results are based on an average of five 5-shot groups from a sandbag rest at 25yd.
Check back next week for our next set of results.

  1. What distance are you doing the accuracy test at? My M&P 9mm has been flawless so far. Can’t say I’m shooting it with a 6# trigger though. I had David Bowie do his superb trigger job to it and now I’m spoiled..

PS – Thanks for all the drills. You’ve really helped me branch out on my training!

  2. Doc — Well don’t I feel stupid. It was 25 yards. I’ll edit the post so it’s clear for folks who don’t delve down into all the comments. Thanks for proof-reading!

  3. Doc — Like I said it really was a silly oversight on my part! Thanks for spotting it, I’m sure you weren’t the only guy scratching his head about it. Stay safe!

  4. Did S&W send you the pistol, or was one selected randomly from a gun shop?

I don’t know that it would make much difference one way or the other, but at least one inquiring mind want to know.
