M&P Monday: Week 18

34,529 rounds
2 stoppages, 0 malfunctions, 0 parts breakages

Another boringly reliable week for the M&P9, firing more than 2,200 rounds without any problems.

The gun helped set a new record for the F.A.S.T. drill at 4.26 seconds during this week. The drill was shot from the concealment of an untucked polo shirt. A CCC Looper (modified for appendix carry) and CCC Basic Mag Carrier rounded out the equipment.

I’ve been carrying this full-size M&P9 in the appendix Looper for weeks now and it is definitely well concealed, comfortable, secure, and fast! For a pretty in-depth discussion about appendix carry methods and options, you might want to read this M4Carbine.net thread. This is a picture of me (in the red shirt) using the appendix Looper during the Pittsburgh AFHF class a couple weeks ago. (photo courtesy of Jack Mulliken)

Stay tuned for some big announcements related to the 50,000 Round Torture Test next week …

  1. I really look forward to going here first on my Monday night shooting forum excursion. I have never seen a better reported and documented long term test of anything. Thanks, and are there any plans to just keep going after 50,000? Be great to see just how far it can go.

  2. Thanks, Steve. What will happen at 50,000? Check back next week … hopefully we’ll know exactly what happens next by then!

  3. Please update us in six months about the appendix carry. I’d like to see a few pictures and try to get a idea of how far down the barrel goes. I can’t quite figure out how that would be comfortable while sitting.

  4. This is somewhat off topic but since you mentioned the items…..

Based on your recommendations, I picked up a Looper and the basic mag carrier for my full-sized M&P 9mm. I like Looper quite well in the limited time that I’ve had it. And the mag carrier has good tension yet releases well. My question is how do you keep the mag carrier from changing position on your belt. I use a Wilderness belt and the carrier tends to shift around some.

    Thanks.

  5. Rick — I’ve never had that problem. Perhaps the belt loop on yours is a little too big? You can either try to fix it yourself or send it back to CCC. In my experience, they’re really outstanding about things like that.

  6. I know, I know! you’re going to give the pistol or it’s brand new replacement from S&W, away to one lucky Pistol Training.com subscriber!!!! right?????

or, maybe just keep shooting it?

  7. Big fan of the site, I live down here in Costa Rica, I concelead carry every day my MP 9mm Compact, with the permit of course, and Im looking forward to buy eighter a 40 or a 9mm MP regular size, this will be my gun for the house, go to the range and also to compete, what do you think? stick to the 9mm or change to 40 with the use in mind, thanks, any video of this new record that you can upload?

  8. S Vega — Personally, I would stick with the 9mm. Higher capacity, less expensive ammo, less recoil. Those are useful features whether it’s for home defense or competition. Sorry, no video of the new F.A.S.T. record, it was just a great (and lucky!) run during a normal practice session.
