Shot the twenty-thousandth round through my personal M&P9 today. Most of the ammunition has been from ATK (including American Eagle, Blazer aluminum, and Speer Gold Dot).
This is the gun I’ve been using and carrying exclusively for the past three months. It’s only been cleaned four times during the entire 20,000 rounds.
My magazines started dropping out of the gun by themselves beginning at the 11,000 round mark. S&W was aware of the issue (it’s been reported widely in various forums) and was able to send me a replacement mag catch without any fuss. The new catch (marked “2” and designed for frames which have a slightly oversized mag catch cut) fits tighter and holds the mags in place more firmly. So far, no problems since the new catch was installed.
Gun is still going strong and shooting 2-2.5″ groups at twenty-five yards.
How many rounds have been put through since the new mag catch?
About 13,000.
That’s good news. I had to send my M&P Pro 9 back the very same day I picked it up.
The striking pin was hitting off-center and therefore not firing the loaded round about once every 30-40 rounds. Was very disappointed.
Upon inspection, I noticed a small tear-drop indentation on the bottom of the striking pin hole. Don’t know if that’s normal or perhaps a cause. The gun dealer sent the gun back to S&W so I hope I find out what the issue is and for better luck when I get it back.
Regards,
Steve
A.W.V. — That cut is in fact normal and designed to prevent problems from firing pin bounce with hot (+p+) 9mm ammo.
OK. Then I’ll have to wait to find out what is wrong. I noticed the larger cal. M&P didn’t have that cut (we were looking at them at the shop).
Looking at the spent ammo, all strikes were center – it was the few that didn’t fire where the strike missed the center of the primer.
Thanks for the info however – just have to wait it out for the return and hopefully a good explanat
oops.. it the submit by mistake.. was going to say hopefully a good explanation from S&W when I get the gun back.

AWV
A.W.V. — Sounds like the gun was not completely locking into battery before the striker releases in those cases. Please let us know what Smith says.
Hi Todd,
I guess my M&P pro9 has finally returned from S&W after a long 7 weeks!!! They don’t note much on the return except it was tested and passed.
I’m looking forward to putting a few hundred rounds though it. After all this time, I’m thinking the tolerances might of been a touch tight and I just needed to work it in (I hope).
Well, I’ll “work it in” this week and let you know the results.
Best Regards,
A.W.V.
Hi Todd,
M&P pro9 is working beautifully!! Worth the wait – she’s a beauty and darn accurate.
Best Regards,
A.W.V.
