New Target Contest

National Target contacted me today, and next week we should be having a formal discussion about putting the pistol-training.com target up for sale on their site. Apparently, enough folks contacted them that they’re convinced it’s worthwhile. Thanks to everyone who has supported the target idea and helped make it a reality, from the guys who offered advice on the design to the readers who have been hounding National Target for the past couple of weeks.

About 1,200 of the new targets are on their way here already. So let’s have a little contest. How about a poetry contest? Tell us why you deserve to win some free targets, and make it rhyme!

Limit one entry per person. Poems must be posted in the Comments section below.

Best four entries receive 50 targets each, shipped anywhere in the continental United States.

(Poems must be original works. All entries become the intellectual property of pistol-training.com. Entires must be posted no later than 11:59pm UDT Sunday 31-Oct. Void where prohibited by law.)

  1. In this case I´m out.
Poetry in english language is definitely not for me! 🙂
Maybe I can buy a couple, instead.

  2. Apparently, a Haiku consists of 17 moras in three phrases of 5, 7, and 5 moras respectively. Although haiku are often stated to have 17 syllables, this is inaccurate as syllables and moras are not the same. (according to Wikipedia) I am going with the syllables as that is what I remember from grade school. Japanese poetry.

    “Some targets for me
Given by you Todd Green – please
    Pushes improvement”

0136hrs. Come on. Honorable mention at least.

  3. As the worstest
    of the FASTest
    I need them
    for the practice!
    (John, Stroudsburg 2009)

  4. To Shoot or Not to Shoot.
To Win or Not to Win.
To Dream or Not to Dream.
To B Fast or Not to B Fast.

If I had this targets all answers to this questions would be Positive, so please pick me Mr. ToddG.

    LOL (Pablo Estrada)

  5. You can run Press Six or 3-Two-1
Hit the range and have some fun
Shoot the F.A.S.T. and Dot Torture
If all goes well the score will be a scorcher

  6. On Press-out over my sights I see
Many choices, but Todd calls,” Two on Three!”

Through sight lift and focus, two holes go there
When Todd calls out, “Now four to the left square!”

This new target, my skills are certainly taxed
And thus my shooting improved, the bad guy’ll be waxed.

    Cheers,
    Pk

I absolutely hated poetry in school, so for me to try in order to get a few of these targets is a big deal for me! (I may have to go back to therapy now.)

  7. Front sight,
    trigger pull,
    speed and accuracy,
Are what I need to work on,
    To impress ToddG.

  8. A LITTLE BOY NAMED TODD GREEN
    HAD A PISTOL-TRAINING DREAM
    A TARGET HE WOULD MAKE
    FOR OTHERS SHOOTERS TO TAKE
AS FOR ME IT’S LEFT TO BE SEEN

  9. ToddG’s new targets are great.
A design I planned to emulate.
    Now that they are available,
    Some may even be mailable.
If I did well, no charges of freight.

  10. The man, the legend, ToddG
His shooting, the best ever seen.
    Through Dot Torture and FASTest
To teach others is his quest
So please send some free targets to me

My own skills, they will not suffice
My shooting must be more precise
    This target could help me
To not suck quite so badly
And that would be ever so nice.

One last verse and this short rhyme will end
These targets would be a Godsend
One day Todd, you kind soul
    To your course I’ll enroll
I would so greatly like soon to attend.

  11. Here I stand, broken-hearted,
Learned to shoot, but I’ve only started.
Here I stand among lead vapor,
As focus on my front sight wavers.

    Dry-fire practice is just fine,
Ppppprrrreeeessss that trigger, take my time.
But if I want to Be Like Todd,
With minus zero to head and bod,

I’ll need some sweet targets to shoot.
Targets born of flame and soot,
Forged in the range of the NRA.
To hone my skills by night and day.

I’ll shoot those targets into shreds!
No dots, no pin, no plate, no head –
Just a mass of bullet holes.
As groups get tighter, draw stroke flows,

Firm grip’s faster, press out’s sooner,
    Front sight’s focused, trigger’s smoother,
    Recoil’s managed, sight’s lined up,
    My favorite shot’s the follow-up.

Soon you’ll see one single light,
Shining through that group so tight…

But I’ll never be all I can be,
If you don’t send some free targets to me!

  12. Todd Rules, a haiku

    That target’s useful
    for training and honing skill
    Todd’s creation rules.

    -Kevin

  13. Once upon a Friday boring,
I was in my office (snoring),
    Looking to the weekend looming
and a range trip, guns a-booming!

In need of a practice session,
    To prevent a sharp regression
    in this most perishable skill
on cards and circles I must drill.

    Dot torture and Press Six
That is how I get my kicks
    the Hack and el Presidente
    I have got choices plenty.

    Knowing that I lack supplies,
to Todd’s site my browser flies
    to print targets with office papers;
Hope my boss won’t see my capers!

Thinking that my crime was seamless,
I’m prepared to leave the print room reamless,
With enough targets to fill a crate.
Oh crap: “Hi boss, why so irate?”

    Now new targets made specially,
I hope they will be sent for free
I need them for continued enjoyment,
because ammo eats up my unemployment.

    -Josh H. 10/29/10

  14. I usually shoot paper plates
or notecards for shots of first rate
    but the holes in between
show my runs are not clean
and my scores are much lower than I state

  15. Haiku – Happy’n’safe Halloween, ya’ll:

    Targets for shooting…
    FAST drilling made easy now…
    Missing zombies though…

  16. A new target from Pistol Training
It will improve your draw and your aiming
Fire 2 to the head then 4 to the chest
If under 5 seconds you best
A F.A.S.T. coin is yours for claiming.

  17. Another target haiku:

    BEEP! Grip, draw, raise, sight.
Smooth pull, straight back. BANG! Trigger breaks.
    High left! Awww, dang flich!

  18. A I W B?
or small of back carry for me?
    Smith, Glock, HK or Sig
    smallest, small, or maybe big
    9, 40, 45?
So many decisions, how to ‘side?
In the end, the best for me
Dropped Offset, with a 9 mil Shadow, by Cee Zee

  19. As a law enforcement officer
I always need to improve my skill.
    The new Pistol-Training.com target
    will definitely fit the bill.

Todd Green is the guy to watch
through all the drills and test.
    This new target
will force everyone to do their best!

  20. I vote for jt45!!!

    For me…

“I need free targets because I am poor….and not very creative.”

    Really..that’s all I have.

  21. Fee-Fie-Fo-Fum
    I’m a man with a gun.

    Fee-Fie-Fo-Fum
I need some targets to have some fun.

  22. Silent and solemn
    Steadily he stood
    A zombie a golem
    An evil to your good

    Bravely stood as he died
    Perforated and cast aside
    None could make him fall
    Though many have tried

    The witness
    The evidence
    To your success
    And failure
    He is target

  23. Try as you might, your poetry sucks
may as well shell out the couple of bucks
Though my words may cause you to want to fight me,
Todd is hooking me up because I asked politely!

    Thanks bro.

  24. Away with the index cards,
    Trash the paper plates,
    Grab the stapler,
    Hang it up,
This target is great, GREAT, great!

  25. He tells me to watch the front sight;
He tells me to do it low-light.
    Now that’s easy to say,
    When you shoot every day.
Maybe new targets could help me shoot right.

  26. For the last ten years I have felt the steam,
Walking the streets among some of the most dangerous teens.
It only makes sense to train all day,
Because on two occasions, its went my way .

The great white north is where I hang my hat,
And to protect my family is why I tap and rack.
I hope one day I will fit the bill,
    If not,
    Oh well,
I’ll always smoke the F.A.S.T. Drill!

  27. Called out to me
    The targets did
In a way I could not resist

    Where else
    After all
    Could a lost bullet-hole find a home?

  28. Second stanza didn’t get posted for some reason. Hope this doesn’t exclude me. Regardless its been fun

    B27, Bullseye, Q?
Shoot the vitals or to wound?
    Paper, Steel or Neoprene?
    Patching, Painting or Self Healing?
    Targets galore exist for us,
But Todd’s new targets best test our stuff!

Please please send em to my US addy

  29. Some Haiku, for you:

    I shoot paper plates
for I can not afford more
    please give me targets?

    My skills are quite weak
    surely I could improve them
    with Todd’s new targets!

    I’d like to be FAST
    and my training is lacking
    some targets may help!

  30. Haiku

    That last one was close.
    Please send some paper targets.
    Regards, William Tell.

  31. (similar theme to my previous entry)

I love shooting with my dad.
It’s been the most fun I’ve ever had.
But his eyes aren’t what they used to be.
And the last shot was really close to me.
Some of your targets we would appreciate.
As I really want to live to eight.
I hope with you all is well,
Signed the son of William Tell

  32. I sit in Chilis on this Phoenix morn,
To read the funny poems you have born.
Your skill and effort surely have been proved.
Our hearts and souls so effortlessly moved.

But now my sandwich has arrived at last,
A treat for me after Aim Fast, Hit Fast.
I swear (before I take the first big bite)
To name the winners by this Tuesday night.

  33. “I’m going the distance, I’m going for Speed.”

I wake up in the morning feeling like Todd Jarrett.
Put my ear muffs in my bag, I’m out the door – wearing my badge of merit

Before I leave, I load the magazine and store the bullets on the side
Almost late to the shooting range, phew here comes my ride!

Now my pistol is ready, I’m standing in a wide stance
I line up the sights, and get focused in a trance

One shot, boom, right in the middle
Shot number two, with no time to piddle
Damn I missed, but I have no fear
Thank God for my Sig Saur that I brought here.

I’m going the distance, I’m going for speed
I’m all alone, all alone in my time of need

I broke rules 2 and 3 and had a close call
Almost shot a hole in the next door mall
My crimson trace always keeps me on track
It helps prevent the need for an ice pack
I keep on going until my ammo is shot
The target is filled in the best spot

So that ends my day of fun
Now, It’s time to pack up my gun

I rush back home with a big smile on my face
because shots didn’t go all over the place

Shooting is safe, but takes lots of practice time
hang in there and soon you will too reach your prime.

  34. Aim Fast, Hit Fast now,
    Aim Fast, Hit Fast forever.
    The new targets rock!

  35. I KNEW it’d be too much to hope that my thought of using haiku would be unique….

    New targets are cool
    Not enough to forget those
    terrible orange shirts.

  36. Some poems rhyme and some are cute,
    Some just leave me..staring… mute.
But the ones that make me throw the towel in
Are the ones of Asian origin.

  37. At my range I’m the only girl,
So I always give it my best whirl.
I train harder than the rest
Cause a girl’s got to shoot her very best.

I can’t tell you how much I’ve spent
on gear, on guns, just to REPRESENT.
New targets would be some killer loot
To take with me next time I shoot.

  38. 10pm in the west
    No idea who’s been picked
    No clue who’s Todd’s best.

Trying not to fret or to worry
    Sitting with clenched fists
Hoping he’ll pick my words typed in furry

    Only 2 hours more
    Till its the next day
    Hurry Todd pick your 4

  39. Very difficult choice to make. There were many outstanding entries!

    The winners are:
    JT45
    Ctrobinson
    MDS
    TonyB

Congratulations! Emails will go out tomorrow to the winners. Thanks to everyone who submitted a poem!

  40. I could be a poet and didn’t show it.
But my feet will soon know it.
When they’re walking out to the range with my new targets!

Thanks Todd and thanks to the guys that voted for me.

  41. Sweet! I knew all that time spent reading in public toilets would pay off some day. 😉

    Thanks!

  42. Hooray for me! I’ve been looking for new targets, so if I like these, I’ll order a bunch more.

Todd, if you’re still around NH I’ll pick up the targets to save you time and money.
