WE HAD PREVIOUSLY MIS-REPORTED THE EXPECTED RELEASE DATE FOR THE P30 .40-CAL GUN. IT IS EXPECTED IN OCTOBER 2009, NOT SEPTEMBER 2009. THANK YOU GOES OUT TO HK-USA FOR CORRECTING OUR ERROR.
This afternoon, I had lunch with the new President of Heckler & Koch‘s U.S. operation, Mr. Wayne Weber. Of particular interest to pistol-training.com readers, Wayne informed me that their very popular P30 handgun should be available in .40 S&W by October of this year.
If you’ve been looking for a P30 in 9mm and can’t find one, it’s no surprise. Apparently, HK hasn’t been able to make them fast enough to meet tremendous U.S. demand.
The HK45 is now ramped up for full production in New Hampshire, so made-in-America HK pistols are on dealer shelves now. The HK45 Compact will start being manufactured in the U.S. some time during 2Q09.

What about improving HK’s customer service?
The P30 in .40 will be a strong seller. The only real problem we’re having with the P30 is keeping them on the shelves. I generally don’t like he HK pistols, but the P30 is a step in the right direction. Still a bit chunky, but headed in the right direction.
They need to do the following:
1. Triggers
2. Price
3. Customer Service
4. Magazine Price
5. Sights
If you like their guns as they are issued, and don’t need spare mags, you are good to go. For my $1000 for a plastic .45 or 9mm I want real night sights, more and cheaper magazines, and a tigger that is competitive with my $400 Glock.
Is he going to fix the abysmal customer service at HK also? Until he does that, I won’t own or recommend another one to anybody.
I have dealt with HK, Beretta, Glock, SIG, and S&W customer service occaisonally over the past fifteen years…and HK was just fine. SIG actually was the worst, dropping the ball on some minor stuff, and S&W the best. Dunno, just not my experience that HK was so awful. BTW, Glocks cost more than $400 in my neck of the woods 🙂
Wayne Weber is a great guy! A former USAF skycop too.
I’ve been bugging him for years (since 1994) by snail and email, and he has always responded.
He looked good shooting the HK 416 on Future Weapons too. If The Unit (TV show) needs to replace Dennis Haysbert, they should give Wayne a call.
I’ve never had problems with HK customer service, but that’s not to say that it cannot be improved. Most notably, I almost always have to leave a message and wait until they return my phone call. Second, they will not take orders for parts not in stock. My guess is that this is done to prevent customer dissatisfaction if parts aren’t delivered from oversea in a reasonable time.
HK is a very centralized operation. Hopefully the U.S. plant will alleviate some of these issues.
On the mags, they are spendy, but they’re probably the best pistol magazines I have ever used.

Love my P-30’s !
Can’t wait till October.
The P30 in 9mm is a superb firearm, and has already been used to deadly effect in at least one shooting that I know of.
The .40S&W version will just add to demand.
You know, gun buyers aren’t stupid, if they are spending $900 on a P30 when they could have a Glock 19 for $500, they obviously have a lot of confidence in their purchase.
