P30 Thursday: Week Fifteen

28,793 rounds
7 stoppages, 0 malfunctions, 1 parts breakages

The major event this past week was Aim Fast, Hit Fast in Virginia. In addition to using the gun to teach the class, half a dozen students took the opportunity to put a few mags through the gun. Not surprisingly, most of them walked away impressed … including the student was using using a V3 (DA/SA) P30 already. If you’re listening, HK, you need to start importing those P30 V4 variants!

We’re at almost 19,000 rounds since the P30 returned from Columbus and with only three cleanings (including the initial cleaning when it returned, before we started shooting again) there have been no stoppages so far.

The accuracy test we promised last week did not materialize … though not for lack of trying. The Heinie sights with the off-center rear dot combined with other issues at the busy indoor range just made consistent maximum-accuracy hits an impossibility. Suffice to say that hitting a 6″ plate out to 30+ yards off hand under time pressure is child’s play with the pistol. When the 50,000 round test is over, we’ll do whatever is necessary to procure a laser aiming device to wring the best possible (mechanical) accuracy out of the gun, as we did last year with the M&P test.

Most of the coming week’s schedule is wide open as I prep for the Aim Fast, Hit Fast class in New Mexico, so expect a high round count to pile up!

For those of you who are disappointed about the lack of an accuracy test, here’s some accuracy to think about: this week’s Gray Room picture.

See you next week …
