77,003 rounds
10 stoppages, 0 malfunctions, 4 parts breakages
That’s right. We’re back! The endurance test gun has returned from the SHOT Show and is ready to get back to work. And with just a couple of days at the range this week, the pistol shot over 2,000 rounds before I broke down and decided to clean it in anticipation of this weekend’s Aim Fast, Hit Fast class at Rangemaster in Memphis.
Other than tuning up for the class, the other focus for my shooting the past two days has been getting reacquainted with that whole “front sight, trigger press” concept that I neglected since hitting the 75,000 mark more than a month ago.
The results weren’t too shabby if I say so myself. For the first time ever, I managed to turn in a perfect score on the Dot Torture drill at ten yards. You can gaze upon the actual target to the right.
Ironically, the worst shot of the whole test was during the deliberate no-stress slow fire segment on dot #1.
Only 22,997 rounds to go in the test before we hit the big 100,000. Funny to think that almost twenty-three thousand rounds of shooting sounds like a minor endeavor at this point.
But don’t think the P30 is going to be resting on its proverbial laurels. In addition to regular practice sessions and teaching, the pistol and I are going to be attending Paul Howe’s Tactical Pistol Instructor course in Nacogdoches, Texas in February… the third formal class the P30 will be put through in less than a year. Howe’s program has a tough set of standards that must be met to earn an instructor certification. We’re confident the P30 is up to the challenge.
But first we’ve got to make it back from Memphis…
Train hard & stay safe! ToddG

Congrats on the DT… I have cleaned it at 7 before but I’ve never tried it at 10. Also congrats (and good luck) on the PH class. I remember once discussing that particular class. I hope to train with him in the not-too-distant future.
After just doing this drill for the first time today I can respect the WHO shots you did there. I had 4 misses on that one. But they did hit the paper though! haha
Has the trigger improved during shooting? If so, how much?
Anyone know where i could find a new p30 lem?
Todd,
A couple of questions if you don’t mind. After all the testing, is the HK P30 your favorite carry gun?
If not, what is your preferred carry gun?
Also, and this kind of goes with the questions above, do you prefer handguns with one type of trigger pull or do you prefer DA/SA?
Thanks and great website here!
Ogre — Absolutely. The trigger pull has dropped by about 3/4 of a pound and is about as smooth as any gunsmith could get it. This gun is as broken in as it can get.
joe — Only advice I can offer is keep looking. The last shipment sold out immediately. HK has more on order from the Fatherland.
Chuck — Right now, the P30 is definitely my favorite. I’m extremely comfortable with the gun and its capabilities. There are guns I can shoot faster, but the overall package of the P30 works best for me. I’ve got no problem with DA/SA guns, but the LEM gives me most of the advantages of a DA/SA without some of the drawbacks.
Thanks Todd.
Todd, would you recommend this over the G4 G22? Also, why the LEM over DA/SA? Could you please compare the trigger to the Glock as well as other things for Glock shooters who may make the transition to the P30S.
Cant wait to hear your report back after the Howe Instructors course!
Todd, I’ve been keeping up with the progress of the P30 since the first week. I live in Lufkin, TX and it’s great to hear that you will be 15 min from my house when you attend Paul’s course. I looked into taking it but won’t have enough time to fill the class requirements. Hope you enjoy it and your time in East Texas.
Todd,
Following up on a couple of old questions…
Did you ever recieve the replacement Heinie Sights?
Any closer to taking orders on Pistol-Training P30L? Want to get three, nice weapons for my daughters to learn to shot with.
Thanks again for hard work.
Jason
Todd,
I have looked EVERYWHERE,their are not any
P30 lem , 9mm out there.Most dealers I asked
said, “they don’t make that in lem, only the usp or the p2000.Like you said, wait for more from the fatherland to arrive.
thanks,
Joe
Joe,
Try “The Armory” in Chesapeake, VA. I purchased a P30 9mm LEM in July 2010 for $809 + tax. Give them a shout if you haven’t had any luck yet.
