  1. Magnificent work of art! Here’s to many pallets of ammo through that puppy.

  2. Why run a customized SIG?

Why not run a bone stock SIG?

Are you apprehensive to, due to SIG’s questionable past QC issues?

  3. John — If you follow the link, which I admit is to a very long thread that will require a lot of time to read and follow, you’ll see that this project sort of took on a life of it’s own once it reached Riehl’s shop.

I’m confident in the SIG. As someone who actually worked there during some of the worst days in terms of QC, that confidence had to be earned before I’d put down cash for a new gun. What Riehl did was just above and beyond and demonstrates what happens when you hand a gun nut rocket surgeon your pistol and ask, “Can you do a trigger job and refinish this for me?”

  4. Todd:

On pistol-forum you noted that you were thinking about a CZ. Now, you said that in jest, but I’m thinking a CZ would probably suit you a lot better.

So . . . now that you have a used SIG you aren’t really going to need, I’m willing to take it off your hands and even throw in–say an extra $75 bucks (US!)over the purchase.

  5. Riehlized, very funny. How long were you saving that, and how worried were you that someone else would come up with it first? 😉

Beautiful gun, dude. I loved watching it evolve in Bill’s hands on the thread.

  6. DAM Todd that Looks Fracking Great!!!!!!!
I hope it shoots as good as it looks. How’s the trigger pull after all the work?

  7. It needs orange cerakote and a PT logo on it. That would really make it shoot better. This other stuff is just tinkering.

  8. Not really sure it’s fair to compare this “test gun” against other test guns that were basically factory pieces.

  9. Rick — A fair interpretation and why I always try to give as much detail about the process as possible. Everyone gets a chance to draw his own conclusions about the results.

  10. I’m with Rick on this. Running a near-totally customized piece that I can’t duplicate for any price won’t tell me anything about whether I need to risk my own $1k on a SIG. It’s kind of like a TV reality show – interesting to watch the pretty things, but not really relevant to anything. Maybe you should consider maintaining Moran as a forever pistol for its eventual residence in the NRA museum and using a different one – closer to stock – for the 50,000 round test.

  11. That really isn’t a custom piece. It has all SIG parts, and not a single part was altered more than 0.0015in. In fact, aside from the finish, I doubt SIGs gunsmiths would be able to quantitatively tell the difference.

If the test was about Corrosion I would agree!
I’m mainly interested in the changed parts.
    -1 Slide and L extractor.
    BTW
You can always go and send your P229R to have it refinished and parts coated.
