Speed Kills (Culpeper VA)

After the success of last month’s Get SOM class, we are responding to student demand and holding another 1-day class in Culpeper VA for March.

To be held on Saturday the 20th, Speed Kills is for anyone who wants to improve his ability to make really tough shots — small targets, distant targets, obscured targets, etc. — quickly on demand. Our goal is surgical precision with confidence but without the need to spend forever slowly aiming each shot.

Class size is strictly limited. Round count will be approximately 700 for the day. Cost is $200. For details or to register, visit the Speed Kills page.

  1. 700 rounds per day – seems to be quite a heavy load, probably much more than ‘average training dose’ for some students.
Don’t you afraid of them getting too tired and unconcentrated before the class ends?

  2. yarco — We expect about a third of the students to die from exhaustion, then we split their gear among the survivors.

  3. Shooting at that pace is really taxing on your concentration, but helpful in the long run. I just completed a class where we shot a little over 400 rounds in 3 hours.

We were split into two groups and the range was run hot (guns always loaded). You barely had time to reload your magazines before you were on deck again.

  4. Hello, I’m a poor college student and new to practical shooting. I’m interested in taking your class, but am hurting financial to pay for all the ammo. I’ve shot a USPSA and IPSC event, read Shooting from Within by Plaxco and Perfect Practice by Kirsch, watched all Burkett and Magpul videos, and practice via dry fire nearly everyday. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to meet the funds necessary to shoot 45acp (currently the only caliber I have that meets minor&major), but sadly the only gun I could financially support currently for a class like this is my Ruger 22/45. If there is no steel shooting is there any possibility of letting rimfire at the class? Thank You,

    DI

  5. DrewI — You can shoot whatever gun you want. You’ll need a suitable holster, mag pouches, and at least five magazines. However, you might want to consider whether your time and money could be spent better on your own practice. A class like this is going to involve multiple rapid shots and your .22 isn’t going to give you an opportunity to work on recoil management.

  6. “Speed Kills” is without question one of the most useful and beneficial pistol courses I’ve ever attended. I highly recommend the course and strongly advise Todd to make it or something very close a part of his regular class offerings. It is exactly the kind of course that most people need as it focuses on delivering pinpoint accuracy (1″ squares were used on some speed drills, folks…that’s tiny) at speed.

  7. JW777 — Thanks! I’m extremely happy (and more than a little surprised) at just how much positive feedback the course has received. I’ve got to figure out how to join this 1-day program with another and make it a class that I can offer when I travel to other cities.

Glad you could make it. And thanks for letting me shoot the pistol-training.com M&P!

  8. I would also say this was an excellent class. I was way behind the curve with a class full of superb shooters but Todd went far out of his way to help keep me on track. Although humbling for me, I got a lot out of it.

I think if you ran a 2-day class with Speed Kills on day 1 and Get SOM on day 2, you’d have a pretty good advanced pistol class. Maybe even throw in a low light portion at the end of day 1 or some SHO/WHO.

And Todd, don’t forget to post the 3-2-1 drill/target!
