Step Outside: NSSF

Step Outside with NSSFThe folks at the National Shooting Sports Foundation have made an excellent suggestion that we should all consider. As you sit down and make your New Year’s Resolutions, how about adding this one: Invite someone to STEP OUTSIDE.

No, we’re not advocating a brawl outside your favorite saloon. STEP OUTSIDE is the NSSF’s program to help you get someone else involved in shooting. Whether it’s someone who has never fired a gun before or someone who just hasn’t been to the range in years, make a promise to yourself that you’ll bring at least one person to the range in 2009.

NSSF will even help you with an online invitation card. And you can even win a $1,000 gift card to Bass Pro Shops just for participating!

We all know that a record number of guns were sold in the U.S. in November. Let’s make a commitment to have a record number of new, trained shooters in 2009.

  1. I actually committed to two “Christmas Gifts” for an introductory range day to two guys that work for me who are interested, but have never fired a pistol before. I have some thoughts on starting with .22 lr revolver and pistol, then going to .38 Special revolver/9 MM pistol, then letting them step up to .357/.45 etc. in about a two hour period (and obviously not both guys at the same time). Any other thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

  2. My daughter’s goal is to earn the NSSF ‘Junior USA Shooting Team Riflery Patch’ this year [http://www.nssf.org/JRUSA/]

  3. We need more of this. The Appleseed program is sort of the same thing…learn to shoot well and then go out and teach somebody else. Took one friend to my first one in January, hoping to take another to one in March or April, and will be taking my daughter to one in June.
