Target

With the help of trusted friends & students, pistol-training.com has come up with a target to use in training classes. It’s designed to be compatible with almost every drill we do in a typical Aim Fast, Hit Fast class including:

There is also a slightly modified version of Dot Torture that we can use with this target.

We’ll be finalizing the design soon and hopefully new targets will be available for our classes by the end of the summer.

What do you think?

  1. That looks great – any chance they’ll be available to buy (or at least a pdf so we can get our own printed)?

  2. Very nice.

I second the notion that the ability to purchase would be beneficial..

  3. Thanks for the support, guys. If there is genuine interest, we’ll work with the target company to see if they can run a few extra for sale to individuals.

  4. I like this target Todd. Seems to be a great combination as you’ve noted. I would certainly use it and happily so.

  5. I like it, but would add random numbers/shapes around the periphery maybe? Slightly larger than the 1-6 in the lower body.
regardless when they are available let us know, I’ll take a box or two.

  6. Looks better than the targets I use when I go to the range. I typically shoot old-school B27 targets with orange X-rings since they’re the best available. I’m interested in this new target when it’s available.

  7. That’s awesome to read. Thanks, everyone. I’ve sent a link for this thread to the company (National Target) and we’ll see what they think.

  8. IMO it looks busy. I think it might require a bit more concentration to shoot faster on these then clean purpose driven targets.

Perhaps something like the VTAC targets where they are two sided. You take things not related to the Q and FAST and put it on the other side of the target.

  9. When we talked about this, I just assumed that they would be available for purchase somewhere. If/when they are, I’ll likely buy a couple hundred.

  10. PPGMD – That was the #1 concern as we went through various iterations of this target. In the end, it came down to compromise. Some of the extras I’d like had to be removed, and some of the base target had to get “busy.”

No question, it will not be the perfect target for every person under every circumstance. The double-sided idea is ia good one for most circumstances, but having some discrete small targets right there available on demand has its benefits, too. Like I said, compromises.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s definitely something we want to be aware of and a criticism I’m particularly listening for as more folks see the target.

  11. Tom — Dude. As one of the key members of the target focus group (that sounds like a shooting technique, doesn’t it?) you can be sure I’ll have some on their way to you as soon as I get them. Plus they should make a good accessory to the BIG project we’re announcing next month.

  12. Todd, BIG project? Pistol-Training.com DVD training series?
DVD Series would be EMMEFFING awesome.

  13. I’m certainly ready to buy them…and see them in future classes! A great selection of drills on one target!

  14. Looks great – definitely interested. How does it work with dot torture?

  15. I like the fact that it is a technical target and not some damn ghey cartoon with a circle superimposed on the chest.

    Well thought-out for your purposes.

  16. Allblack — No, no plans for a training DVD from me.

    JSGlock34 —

Dot A: five slowfire shots. Then score, mark misses, and perform five 1-shot draws on the same dot.

Dot B: Draw and fire five, strong hand only.

Dots 1 & 2: Draw, fire one on Dot 1, one on Dot 2. Repeat four times.

Dot 3: Draw and carefully transition to a weak hand only grip; fire five.

Dots 4 & 5: Draw, fire two on Dot 4, two on Dot 5. Repeat four times.

Dot 6: Draw, fire one, reload, fire one (on same dot). Repeat three times.

  17. Question: Since the orientation of the human head is longer vertically than it is horizontally, why is the 3×5 card section of this target (and other PT.com targets) oriented the opposite way? I would think a vertically-oriented 3×5 card would make more sense for practicing real-life head shots. Thanks for your time.

  18. TLG,

go ahead and send a hundred or so out for the 1st Annual multi-color 2-gun match. We are still working on a course of fire, but it should be quite the show with the various styles and personalities.
