The AD Heard ’round the World

You remember Special Agent Paige of the DEA, right? Back in 2004, the video of him shooting himself with his “Glock 40” became an internet sensation both within and outside the gun community.

Paige subsequently sued the DEA, blaming them for leaking the video.

Last week, a U.S. District Court judge ruled against Paige, saying there was inadequate evidence of the source of the video leak.

Paige had filed the suit pro se (on his own behalf without a lawyer). Rumors that he stood up in court and claimed, “I’m the only one in this room professional enough to file a lawsuit” remain unsubstantiated at this time.

Funniest blog entry of the year… so far.

Hopefully we’ve heard the last of this guy.

  2. Man, I was just talking about that video to a co-worker this morning, what are the odds…

  3. “I’m the only one on this internet professional enough to comment on this post.”

  4. Todd, the correct way to say it is “Glawk four O” or “Glawk fortay”.

That was passed along to me, I am not professional enough to give advice on that particular platform or weapon system.

  5. This guy is great. I teach the NRA basic pistol course and play this video segment during the discussion on the NRA’s three rules of safe gun handling. Which of the three rules has this man violated?

  6. At least he didn’t shoot himself through the thigh like a certain “Top Shot”.

  7. For shame, Todd.

Posting this only confirms that you are indeed a white devil!

  8. nice. nothing like the internet to continue one’s shame. I wonder where he’s working now? probably not undercover I’d guess.

  9. “I’m the only one in this room professional enough to file a lawsuit” hahaha xd!
Todd, you should send youself a HK calendar!

  10. I am grateful for the sacrifices that DEA agents make for our well-being. I am especially grateful for those on the force who give of their time to help our children live safely. I am even more grateful for those agents who would try their best to educate potential future gang members (urban) on the dangers of firearms.

I have always believed that pity and correction were in order in this case. But certainly not such scorn and rejection.

Certainly we can rise above the mental midgets of late night television. Not everything that can be laughed at, should be laughed at.

  11. Stephen — I was one of the first folks to get a copy of this video when it first leaked. My reaction and comments at that time (and ever since) were always that:

    * great example of the danger of complacency
    * the agent did a great job keeping his wits about him after being shot
    * the agent was smart enough to make sure no one else was hurt even while he was bleeding from his self-inflicted GSW

But the reality is that irony can suck, and when you shoot yourself two seconds after bragging that you’re the only one qualified to handle a gun, well, that’s going to get around.

  12. Yup.

Every time I watch it, I’m laughing at the irony as much as I’m impressed by how he cowboyed up in the aftermath of what he had to know was a career-wrecking incident.

  13. Having spent quite a bit of time around DEA agents, and DEA firearms instructors in particular, I feel very confident in saying that Mr. Paige is not an example of the agency’s general competency with firearms.

  14. I’m sure you are right, but unfortunately all it takes is one public incident like this to give the public that negative perception.

  15. the video became our Gun safety training material..fyi… ..very effective indeed!!

  16. should’nt he be charged with discharging a firearm on a public school’s grounds?
