For about 5 years straight, Todd and I spent many days every week shooting together. We shot approximately 160,000 rounds between the two of us each year. With that much time on the range, it can be hard to stay motivated and easy to run out of things to do. That actually never happened to us, but I hear people tell that it happens to them.
One way to stay motivated is to track your performance. Kind of essential actually, if you want to be efficient and improve more quickly. Another way (best when done in conjunction) is to vary the drills you practice, kind of like Crossfit for shooting. Todd and I came up with a lot of drills and variations on them to push ourselves and test our ability.
The FAST test is probably the best known, but as the name implies, it is a test, not a drill. Doing the FAST over and over is a very slow way to improve your shooting and I don’t recommend it. Friends of ours also contributed drills and tests, and some of the better ones are found on the Range Work (formerly title “drills”) page. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do, and stay tuned for some new ones to be added in the near future.
