P-T’s famous (infamous?) test of shooting skill, is also one of the best known and most sought-after challenges in the shooting school world today. Todd originally wanted a test that he could use in class to quickly assess the major components of a shooter’s ability. Draw to a low probability target, hit it twice, reload from slide lock, and hit a high probability target 4 times — from concealment. That concealment part is critical, but due to the reality of the market and Todd’s desire to include military and LE students who were legitimately using duty-type gear, revised rules were adopted to accommodate them as well.
After a couple of high-level shooters put out some blistering times, the FAST started making the rounds on the internet, with all sorts of people shooting it incorrectly. Some even use it as a credential. The rules are on the FAST page, for those interested in trying it out correctly.
For those of you who want to take a formal run at earning a FAST coin, Ernest Langdon, of Langdon Tactical Technologies, is the current place to go. Aside from a chance to earn a FAST coin, there are few instructors that we can recommend as highly as we do Ernest. Read some of what Todd said about Ernest here and stay tuned for an upcoming post from Ernest as well.
