gunzoo.com has announced its FASTer Bracket Challenge, a video mail-in competition. The competition uses a modified version of the F.A.S.T., shot without concealment using USPSA-legal Production gear. But before you think that makes it easier, read the fine print. The target used is the traditional IPSC torso target*. So sure, you’ve got a little more generous body zone for those already fast shots. But your head box is now 2×4 instead of 3×5. For the mathematically challenged, that’s barely more than half the real estate in which to land your shots.
All you have to do is videotape yourself shooting the drill. Instructions for the drill, allowable gear, and acceptable videotape methodology are all up on the gunzoo.com page. You should definitely check it out.

* now lovingly referred to as the USPSA Metric target… as opposed to the much newer USPSA target which is called the “Classic” … I am not making that up.
It’s like they were playing the telephone game with what to call the targets, and by the time the official materials were printed everything was fouled up. The naming convention makes absolutely zero sense.
Is Pistol Training or Pistol Forum going to be a sponsor?
As for the target names, the Classic target was called that in a PC attempt to smoothe things over around the world, everyone in the international IPSC community should have seen the writing on the wall back then, that the newly named Metric target wasn’t going to be around long. And surprise, outside of the USA its no longer an approved target for IPSC.
The FASTer sounds like a fun variation and other than concealment it stresses the same skills and is even more demanding in accuracy. What’s not to like?
Re the metric & classic issue: Even in the US we get folks wanting to stress the “sport” side of USPSA and get away from the martial aspects due to PC. I always wonder what the practical in USPSA will stand for when you take away the defensive aspect.
Catering to the anti-gunners in hopes of appeasing them is like Jews lining up neatly to appease the nazis. It hasn’t worked too well for our British and Australian gun cousins.
I agree 100%
Why weird turtle targets? Because racegun!
