Two items from today’s Shooting Wire caught my eye and demonstrate yet again just how out of touch companies in this industry can be. Which do you think is dumber:

My vote is for the bayonet. While the titanium finish on the SIG is ridiculous, it’s just a finish and what a gun looks like isn’t as important as its functionality. The bayonet both looks stupid and lacks functionality. Your thoughts?

I’m gonna vote for the bayonet. The SIG might be disgusting, but at least it still works properly.

My vote is for the bayonet. It would be stupid no matter how the tip is shaped, but why is it squared off like a dive knife? On some forum right now some idiot is claiming that Navy SEAL Team Six uses Glocks as their primary scuba pistol.
What do you think about those “tactical block” things that people make so their gun doesn’t go out of battery if they have to press it up against a surface.

The bayonet is for the open carry crowd so they can cut their steaks when they go out, it has a purpose.
I understand that the rainbow finish is also in the inside and very smooth.
If SIG gave me a rainbow titanium p239, I’d carry it. Concealed of course.
The range I worked on can not keep those silly bayonets in stock, they sell out as soon as they come in.
I expect to see Fobus and Uncle Mikes to come out with pistol holsters for it any day now.
I don’t think the bayonet is bad at all, as I get the sense the manufacturer knows it’s stupid and hilarious. Its mission is to be entertaining, not functional, and it accomplishes that well.
My girlfriend (who is a shooter, by the by) liked the rainbow finish that Sig had. And I find that pistol bayonet slightly funny. (Though really, it was the bayonet for a NAA .22 mini revolver that had me laughing out loud. 🙂 )
Just because YOU don’t like something, doesn’t make it universally garbage, or the people who design and make such things idiots.
How can you possibly say the bayonet has no functionality? Clearly there is a notch there for cutting a seatbelt off of yourself or a loved one who is trapped in a vehicle. Plus, what whacko would try to disarm you with that thing sticking out there? They’d lose a limb for sure. Let’s think things through before rushing to judgement.

Whereas the pistol bayonet is awesome. The only thing lacking is duel wield with duel Fobus holsters that Gerry commented on. Think about the genius behind duel bayonet CQC when you run out of bullets and you obviously can’t reload when you have two full fists of AWESOMENESS!!
Or, or, you just need to add the pistol SHIELD (patent pending as well as the TM) so that you will be UNSTOPPABLE at the next pistol-jousting tournament!
Gotta vote for the bayonet as well. At least the Sig, as hideous as it is is still a P239 and has some value in that mode.
The SIG is worse, and it’s not even close.
The bayonet is made by some retarded company that’s looking to make a buck or two off of some hillbilly. The gun is made by a MAJOR manufacturer that should be more concerned with improving their QC than making guns that compliment women’s purses.
The only thing that would be cooler would be a titanium finished pistol bayonet! Now is we could only get Safariland to make a ALS holster to fit it….

Sheesh guys. If a shiny finish makes one more woman carry a gun, it was worth it. I can understand not personally liking the appearance, but hey – I don’t think guys were the target audience here…
Apparently the good idea fairy has struck twice with this one before. In 1837 with the Elgin Cutlass Pistol and again in WWI with the Webley revolver bayonet.
That rainbow titanium finish is SO 2005.
I think the rainbow sig is horrible, at least you can take the bayonet off — and go back to having an excellent gun.
I know a few gals that would like the rainbow Sig, and why not, it would probably work fine for them even though it is not my thing.
The bayonet on the other hand has no useful purpose except as a novelty.
as to the finish , each to thier own… frankly if the finish on that quality firearms attracts a women to buy it and carry it to defend herself then more power to sig for offering this. look how many women like pink glocks and pay a premium to have them painted.

I beg to differ. The bayonet serves a crucial purpose:
It is a clear warning to anyone near it that the person in possession of the bayonet-equipped Glock is unfit for firearm use, likely a danger to themselves and others, and quite possibly a choking hazard to small children if left unattended.
To be honest though, that finish on the Sig is extremely durable, gawdy, but durable.
Wait. Does this mean that not everyone has a bayonet on their carry pistol?

the only thing wrong with the bayonet is it’s not pointy. When my gun runs out of bullets, I want a pointy thing to go stabby with .

I have to vote for the finish. I have used a pistol bayonet on Modern Warfare multiplayer and I rule so I know it came from some high speed low drag guys. I need 2 for every pistol. The finish is just gay and has no purpose unlike the ultra cool and deadly knife.
Hard to grab a gun out of someone’s hand if it has a knife-sharp edge to it, OTOH a dazzling rainbow-hued Sig would go well at Pink Pistol potlucks! 🙂
People do some weird things to their cars and think it looks cool. I’m not hip to all the body art either. The Sig fits right in with today’s crowd.

Oh, no! I’m working on attaching a picatinny mount to a straight razor, in a quest to make my morning routine as manly as possible. I figured I’d time the release to go along with The Gadget, and maybe get Tom and Todd to market a package deal.
Hopefully SIG will do an exclusive partnership with LaserLyte to make a Rainbow Bayonet, and leave my plan some chance of success…
The bayonet needs its own Picatinny rail so you can put more stuff on it. Like another bayonet.
(…and I know that optics risers have a place in this world, but I can’t have been the only person who first saw them and thought “Awesome! Now I can mount even more Picatinny rails on my Picatinny rails!“)
The wife wants the rainbow Sig. I don’t blame her, it matches her pocket knife. I’d prefer it in 9mm. .40 recoil is not something she has enjoyed in the past. If it’s a gun for her, it should be in her caliber of choice. This is an awesome BBQ gun. Not all guns are designed to ride in your pants.
Bayonet – totally worthless.
The rainbow finish is horrid IMO, but agree that if it appeals to women it isn’t a total waste. We need more ladies supporting gun rights, and I will take them any way I can get them.
Bayonet hands down. I can see a bayonet on a rifle even in today’s age, but on a pistol it’s just plain freaking stupid.
The finish on the SIG makes me want to hurl, but as long as the gun is mechanically sound, I’m not going to bitch… too much.
While the bayonet is definitely worse, it’s not COMPLETELY useless.
