This past weekend was pretty amazing. The Cameron Cup and Show Me Cup were held in Missouri and most of the top shooters in the country showed up. In addition to them, two very good friends came out to shoot with JAG and me. Though it was their first Action Pistol match, both are accomplished shooters.
In addition to having good friends come out to shoot great matches, two milestones were reached, one very big and one much smaller. The smaller accomplishment is that I made High Master and should have enough points to be Distinguished, which is a nice way to finish out the season. The big accomplishment is that SSG Chris Huddock shot the first 1920 ever in Production Optics. Impressive on its own, SSG Huddock has only been shooting Production Optics for about half of this season. Those AMU shooters can shoot!
Justin Dyal was one of my friends who came out this past weekend and it was his first time shooting Action Pistol. He had been wanting to try the sport for the last 20 years, but with deployments and everything else, it just didn’t happen. Justin is a great shot and did very well for the first time. Hopefully, he will be able to continue in some way, though matches in his part of the country are a bit on the thin side.
My other friend who made the trek out here was Joe, who you guys probably know from RTKLLC Nightvision. Earlier this year Joe became intrigued by my descriptions of Action Pistol and decided to join us. Joe also shot really well and seems to be hooked on the sport, so hopefully, we will see more of him in the future as well.
Joe was hardcore and used a G45/Acro, kind of like swimming with weights. Justin shot a Walther PDP, which is a gun that is growing on me. I’m not about to adopt some crazy striker-fired gun, but the PDP really seems to offer a lot and I may play with one a bit more in the future.
I, of course, shot my trusty P30L from LTT, though this time I used my backup gun with a Holosun 507comp. It may be a touch less accurate than my main gun, but cleaning the practical at 50 yards has left me very comfortable with the accuracy it delivers. Over the 40 draws that happen in an Action Pistol Match, the LTT double action proved to be an asset for me, and I appreciate it more all the time.
Here is a short video from one of the matches.
And here is a quick video of me shooting the PDP at a steel target about 10 yards away. The group ended up being nice and tidy, an indication of how easy the gun is to shoot at speed. My splits were .18’s and .19’s, about as fast as I can normally go unless I have a Shadow 2 in my hands.
