C&H Optics Update

This won’t be a comprehensive review, but just a quick update on the optics I have from C&H. My previously mentioned Duty sight was one of the first off the line and I had some fit issues with the recoil lug. C&H took it back for some testing, along with the G22 slide that they direct milled. At first, they thought they might have cut my slide incorrectly, but the end result is that they redesigned the mounting clamp to better hold under .40 recoil. I have had it back for a bit now and so far it is holding up very well. My sample of one has very good glass and has had no issues since getting a different clamp/recoil lug. So far, I feel good recommending it, though only time and numbers will tell for sure.

I also have a comp optic, mounted on a G45/Radian Afterburner. I really like this optic. Very similar to other competition-oriented sights that I have used, it is a little more basic, but just as usable. I have had zero issues with it so far, and hope it will stay that way as I shoot the G45 more over time.

My final C&H optic is the EDC XL, mounted on a CZ Shadow 2. It too has been trouble-free and easy to use. I like bigger optics for carry and shooting, and the XL is a nice improvement over the typical carry-sized optic.

Of the three, I do prefer the comp the most, but that is my bias for bigger optics showing. I can’t say that it shoots better than the other two, and the glass seems equally good across my three samples. The prices have come down pretty well since the launch, and I would say that if you want a less expensive optic to use and abuse, the C&H lineup deserves a hard look. If the Duty continues to hold up to hot .40, they will really have a useful closed emitter. Some of my other closed emitters do not have as nice a view through the glass, and though the Duty is a little bigger, it has not been an issue for me yet. I should add though, that I have not tested it in any “duty” holsters, just open-top concealment or competition rigs.

Finally, though I have a good working relationship with C&H, they do not pay me for any of this, and they have been very open and upfront about any QC or machining issues that have popped up. Companies that want to deny ever having any issues really wear me out, and it is reassuring to deal with people who own up to the flaws we sometimes see. The fact that they fix those issues quickly and effectively also means a lot to me.

I will report back as I shoot them more, but please bear in mind that I have no intention of “torture” testing these optics, just shooting them, and seeing how they do.

    1. It works reasonably well. I am absolutely not a fan of comps on serious guns, but they certainly are fun to shoot. In a few years, I’m sure my opinion on this will be a minority opinion.

  1. I’m going to check out C&H Comp. My eyes are telling me it’s time to run dots on my everyday guns not just my play guns. Thanks for the review and updates SLG!

    1. Good to hear from you! C&H is sending me a cover for the comp that should make it more robust. As soon as I get it in hand I will let you know.
