Glock 17 gen4 Endurance Test: Week 23

33,510 rounds 7 stoppages
(+1 w/non-LCI extractor)
0 malfunctions 0 parts breakages

As promised, this was a very light week. Most of my range time was spent on marksmanship which necessarily means fewer shots and fewer hours on the range. After all that, I ran a Dot Torture at 10yd and still only scored a 47, dropping three points on the weak hand only portion.

Last week I mentioned getting a Safariland Model 27 holster for T&E. My plan had been to wear it all week and use it during all of my shooting practice. However, the first trip to the range proved this plan untenable. The S27 as-is does not work for me during serious training. After about a dozen full-speed draws it has shifted position and cant enough that my presentation was fatally fumbled.

I’m going to try some homemade remedies including a better positioning screw and some velcro attachments to keep the holster steady, but the S27 is a great example of a product that is good enough for the masses while missing the mark just enough to keep it from being popular with serious gun guys. Being able to lock the rotation and a solid loop (or even a c-hook like those used by Comp-Tac) would elevate this holster substantially. Given that it’s less expensive than most of the popular aiwb rigs on the market today, if they inscribed “DON’T PANIC” in large friendly letters on the front it would likely supplant its competitors as the standard in aiwb.

Heading off to New Mexico — actually, I should be on the airplane when this posts — for an Aim Fast Hit Fast class this weekend full of folks who are definitely in the running for a F.A.S.T. Coin! Should be an exciting time. No pressure, guys.

Train hard & stay safe! ToddG
