Prairiefire RANK Championship

JAG and I just got back from the inaugural Prairiefire RANK Championship in Texas, and it was quite the event! I will post more about it over time, but since I missed my usual Saturday morning post, I wanted to get something out as soon as possible. Many of the top shooters in the country attended, all shooting for the $50,000 first-place prize. I did not really expect to win (probably a Mindset! failure on my part, lol), but I hoped to do reasonably well. Long story short, I made it to the Top 8 Quarterfinals. The final event was a fairly physical stage that certainly favored the more youthful competitors. I was shooting my usual G17/RMR against a field of tricked-out limited-type 9mm dot guns. Making the Top 8 was a lovely way to close out my 2022 competitive season, especially since my last run and gun competitions are many years in the past.

Tim Yackley, son of our friend Becky Yackley, (who also kindly took the picture you see below) ended up winning with two back-to-back impressive runs against Nils Jonasson. On his first run, Tim went one-for-one on a very long and demanding steel course. None of the rest of us managed that at any point, on any stage, let alone with the pressure of a possible overall win weighing on us. Congratulations to Tim for some truly outstanding shooting!

Here, I am jumping down from the first shooting position. You can see my pistol on the deck just to the left of my left hand. We were required to unload it prior to dismounting the platform, and allowed to set it down if we wanted.

Stay tuned for more thoughts, pictures, videos and lessons learned from the Prairiefire RANK Championships!
