Two short sessions this week were spent primarily working with the laser and getting in my 2012 Performance Challenge results.

The results are consistent with my overall performance using the laser. At speed, the laser tends to be faster and so long as I’m patient enough to break only good shots I get good, fast hits. When speed is no longer a factor and maximum accuracy is called for, the irons win out for the time being because I am much more used to reading my iron sights during the trigger press… and I tend to take more time on the trigger press. It’s tricky overcoming the Perfect Sight Picture Syndrome when shooting the laser.
This also leaves my Performance Challenge starting numbers at:
- 300 average: 274
- F.A.S.T. average: 4.96
The G26 also passed its initial function check, firing five hundred rounds of American Eagle FMJ practice ammo and then one hundred rounds of Federal 124gr +p HST without any stoppages or other problems.
Out of the G17, one round of the 124gr American Eagle FMJ practice ammunition had a squib this week. On the second round of a 3-shot drill the pistol went “puff” instead of “BANG!” so I stopped to verify the bore was clear, which it was. The gun did cycle properly.
There will be no Week 43 update next Friday because I’ll be at the SHOT Show all week.

Regarding the squib AE load, that is the load we shoot by the 10s of thousands where I teach. We’ve seen quite a few rounds that are underloaded
To continue, underloaded rounds are common along with quite a few rounds that are missing the primers and that have crushed case mouths. It is still a good idea to check the ammo in the box before you load it!
Wayne — I shoot it by the 10s of thousands myself. 8) Agree 100% on checking the ammo. This ammo is left over from a previous endurance test and it had a few similar low power rounds back then, as well. Luckily in every instance the bullet cleared the muzzle as it did here.
what are the after market parts that this gen 4 g17 now uses to run reliable?
Packy — I don’t think the gun uses any aftermarket parts that affect reliability. The parts that Glock has changed to improve the 9mm gen4 guns (recoil spring assembly, extractor, ejector) are all from Glock in my test gun.
The test gun is using Crimson Trace Lasergrips, a Glockmeister grip plug, Lone Wolf 3.5 connector, and Ameriglo sights.

Is it safe to buy a gen4 g19?
I’m a but concerned about whether or not I’ll be stuck with a dud that needs to be sent back to glock a few times before I can trust it for ccw. I’m still in shock over the whole glock recall issue. It’s like my honda turned into a yugo.

I’m with Joe here as well, is it safe to buy a current Gen 4 or a new Gen 3 Glock? The forum’s are abuzz over the Glock fiasco, and it has me worried. Thanks.
