  1. Now I know you were being more previse than working for speed:)

I went to my first IDPA a few months back and scored a 12.66/no PD. So I know you can do faster than that.

It’s good to see these drills on video.

  2. I don’t know if it came from a John Wayne movie or not but I’ve always gone by the adage “No one gets shot twice until everyone gets shot once”.

  3. Moving ‘off the X’ makes the this drill even more interesting as well as more challenging. The club I shoot with includes movement and/or use of cover as a scoring criteria for any drill…

  4. Flyfishtom — while that “boarding house rules” thing sounds good, it doesn’t actually work in real life. When everyone is moving and shooting at one another, finding and targeting each threat once can range from “difficult” to truly “impossible.” It’s also completely opposite of our natural stress response. Might be a good topic for a future post!

  5. Todd, I would love to see a discussion of that very topic. I watched a SWAT guy train at the range last Saturday and he concetrated on one target at a time. He was wearing a safety holster also and it seemed to me it took him a long time to get his pistol out.

  6. As my screen name implies, I flyfish a bit. I used to teach casting on a modest scale and there is one similarity to shooting that I have noticed. People that can’t cast and won’t practice go out and buy more expensive equipment, thinking that is the solution. Obviously, it is not. I watched a guy (me) at the range today with a brand new .45 that couldn’t keep six shots in a 3 x 5 card. I’ll do wall drills until my thumb hurts and pick up 1,000 rounds of practice ammo Saturday.

  7. I flyfish too as well as shooting pistols in New Zealand. My shooting is WAY behind my flyfishing. Now I’m trying to get as good with a gun as I am with a rod in my hand.

I fished for 20 years before buying a couple of Sage rods. Now I’m buying cheap guns. Hmmmmm.

The challenge is to find the time to spend hundreds of hours on the range (a two hour drive away) to try and build some skills.

The advice on this site is fantastic. Far beyond anything I can get here. I’ve never heard of any of the drills and the videos are very helpful. Cheers.
