Win a New SIG P290

SIG-Sauer is giving away a new SIG P290 (first mentioned here at pistol-training.com back in October) in its “Team SIG Sweepstakes” this month.

You can visit their website to enter free of charge, no purchase necessary, void where prohibited by law, and all that stuff.

You’ll also note that SIG intends to sell the P290 at an MSRP of $758. That’s more than $100 over the MSRP for a P250 subcompact. So winning one for free may be the only intelligent way to procure a P290.

(for comparison, the new Ruger LC9 will have an MSRP of $443)

  1. Thanks, I just registered to win. I’d love one of those. Will give the LC9 6 months to mature and get over with the first recall.

  2. Wow that’ a bit steep isn’t it? I’m getting a bit tired of small 9mm pistols, the market is over crowded with them now and it’s like every single new gun that comes out is guaranteed to be a small black plastic 9mm.

Nothing wrong with 9mm or small plastic guns but it’s getting old. I know it’s about profit margin since these things are cheap to squirt into the molds but… yawn. I’m waiting for Apple to release the i9 nano in indigo.

  3. The MSRP is not out of line for a good sub compact 9mm. It is right between the Kahr PM9 and the Walther PPS. The new SIG will probably sell well as long as it is reliable

  4. Sadly, with the external resemblance to the P250, my initial thought was “All the suck, half the size!”

  5. Hey David:

I think you are quite incorrect. The market cries out for well-made, small, light, ergonomic, ultra concealable single stack 9mm’s at reasonable prices. I mentioned this about a year ago and even Micheal Bane took up the bandwagon to help give the masses what they want. Besides the Kahr PM9 (with dubious quality control, a highish price tag, and a lousy trigger to action shooting) and Keltec PF9 (with lousy quality of design and manufacture and crap trigger) exactly where are these guns? They generally dont exist because of the import point system regs of the ATF which is not going away–so they must be US made. I applaud SIG and Ruger for stepping into the void. There are instructors at SIG Academy carrying Kahrs and even LCP’s because SIG didnt make a light, easily concealable gun. Yes the G26 is kind of nice but it is still a bit blocky on many people. So lets see if HK, Walther, Steyr, Glock, Beretta, Taurus, etc arent going to make it–its left to US Sig, Ruger, and Smith to fill the void. Well the dudes at Smith dont seem very bright in that they should have come out with the single stack M+P off duty nine instead of going a day late and a dollar shot with the Bodyguard 380. With an M+P/Bodyguard single stack NINE they would have sold thousands. They still havent even filled out their line of M+P pistols.

Another 9mm you bet. The problem is I think SIG and Ruger may have blown the opportunity with–according to Todd–LOUSY designs. Heck all they had to do was iron out the Diamondback 380 design in a 9mm and give the masses that–but no. At this point the Boberg looks to be the interesting and innovative design that none of the US manuf can dream up and produce: http://www.bobergarms.com/
